Billy Joe Fudge proposes simple fix to 'Yield Sign' Massacre

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
If they would move them to the "enter the square side" of the crosswalks, where they belong, and move the traffic flow a lane away from the courthouse nearer the crosswalks, everything would work so much smoother and safer. Now if you are entering the square you have to stop at the crosswalk for pedestrians, then move up and stop for the traffic coming around the courthouse. Crazy man, crazy!!! -BJF

By Linda Waggener

To help relieve students' stress the day before ACT exams, the ACHS Student ambassadors partnered with GRAS for a Puppy Pit in front of the high school. As students went back and forth to lunch, they were given time to pet, walk and romp with dogs, all at the shelter and in need of homes.

There were seven dogs in the ACHS Puppy Pit and students who were asked said, yes, the activity really does lower the stress of exam time.

Hunter Durham remembers Lewis Coffey's art

Hunter Durham writes:
Mr. Coffey was a painter and drew and painted a lot of scenes of forest, views from a mountain top. When Joyce and I got married in 1962 he wanted to know what kind of wedding gift he could give. I said that he always painted a dead tree and that is what I wanted. He gave Joyce and me a beautiful small framed picture of a dead tree hanging out over a cliff. I really like it. Probably bring a nickel at a sale, but is my favorite. Mr. Coffey taught my class when I a young boy; Bill Parson, Philip Randall, Ben Harrison and others were in that class. His Wife was wonderful and his daughter is a Great Person. - Hunter Durham

Comment: Thanks for correct uses of peek, peak, pique

Writer Joyce Coomer hopes for continuing improvement in our language: "...A few other misuses are vise instead of vice, cage instead of cadge, and the interchangeable (NOT!!!!!) usage of reed/read, leech/leach, site/sight/cite, heel/heal, and the most recent really annoying one -- conscious instead of conscience..."

By Joyce Coomer

Thank you very much for the correct usage of peek, peak and pique with the photograph of snow-covered March flowers (Daffodil Watch 2018 - Peeking too soon, piquing before peaking ). Now, will you please apply for a free-lance proofreading job at all major publishing houses?

Larry Smith: Lake, Green River mood swings Sun 18 Mar 2018

A Sunday outing on Green River Lake and the beautiful Green River
Click on headline for introduction with photos

By Ed Waggener

Larry Smith, General Manager of The Big Dawg, 99.9 FM, went on one of his favorite stay-cations to Green River Lake and Green River and captured some violent mood swings from the placid lake to a spillway almost as violent as Bull Connor's firehoses in Birmingham of the 1960's to a serene downstream scene, to an almost as peaceful and comforting as, and evocative of, the River Jordan in the Bible.

For viewer convenience, the pictures he took are in an album, linked to this introduction.
