Mr. Johnny Webb, 58, Kettle, KY (1958-2016)

He was a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ and a Fiber Optics Technician. He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He leaves six direct living descendants.

Mr. Johnny Webb, 58 of Kettle, KY passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1pmCT, Saturday, November 26, 2016 in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Aric Russell officiating and memories shared by his niece, Krystal. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery in Cumberland County, KY. The family will receive friends after 3pmCT on Friday, November 25, 2016 until the funeral hour on Saturday.

Memory Ervin, 96, Metcalfe County, KY (1920-2016)

He was the patriarch of a large, respected North Metcalfe County family. He was the son of the late Wood and Lovie Jeffries Ervin, and the widower of Emily Martin Ervin. He leaves 15 direct living descendants. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith.

100 years ago - Thanksgiving in and around Columbia

The Paramount Theater was screening a fabulous movie, "Zaza" so fabulous that the price of admission was doubled - all the way to ten cents each. At Tabernacle, the entertainment was more homemade, with a play, "Pumpkin Ridge." And at Glens Fork, the big event of the day was a trek to Pleasant Hill for a Thanksgiving Sermon

Thanksgiving barely made the News in the November 28, 1916 edition. One short paragraph, tucked well below the cut line, informed readers Rev. L.F. Piercy, of the Columbia Methodist Church, would deliver the Thanksgiving sermon at the Columbia Christian Church. The appointed hour wasn't noted, but admonished the News, "The business houses should be closed when the bell rings and remain closed until after the services." The following week the paper reported that a large congregation attended; that everything said was appropriate and interestingly told; and that the afterwards, the sermon was largely complimented.

KY Afield Magazine: Frankfort Museum displays B.C. Milam Reel

The story of the B.C. Milam reel, one of many artifacts of interest to outdoor enthusiast. Anyone interested in old reels or fishing history should take a day during the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays and visit the Capital City Museum at 325 Ann Street, in downtown Frankfort. Downs and the Capital City Museum opened an exhibit in early November displaying an array of rare, superbly maintained Frankfort, also called Kentucky, reels.

Alex F. Young, Taylor County, KY (1949-2016)

He was a former Jefferson County Police Officer and was awarded the Meritorious Service Award from Senator Mitch McConnell. After moving to Lawrenceburg, KY, he worked with the Department of Emergency Services in Frankfort where he retired. Alex was a devout member of the NRA, loved to shoot guns and earned his private pilot license for single engine airplanes.

Alex F. Young, 67, of Lawrenceburg, KY, formerly of Campbellsville, KY, e died at 1:52pmET, Monday, November 21, 2016 in Lawrenceburg, KY.

There will be a funeral service for Alex F. Young at 1pmCT/2pmET, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. John Chowning. Visitation will be after 10amCT/11amET, Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, W Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.

Campbellsville University Christmas Concert: A Gift to Community

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will host her 12th annual Tapestry Concert at 6pmCT/7pmET Friday, December 2, 2016, in Ransdell Chapel at 401 N Hoskins Avenue, Campbellsville, KY. Everyone is invited to the free concert.

"This concert is considered a 'Gift to the Community,'" according to Dr. Tony Cunha, dean of the School of Music at Campbellsville University.

"We are thankful for all of the support we receive throughout the year, through concert attendance, community participation in ensembles, local ensembles performing on our campus, donations to the Friends of Music, etc.," Cunha said.

Mr. Charles E. Atwell, Buffalo, KY (1934-2016)

Mr. Atwell was a former employee of the Parker-Kalon factory and the owner of Pioneer Cabinets. He was a talented woodworker and his handmade furniture and cabinetry will be cherished for generations. Mr. Atwell was a veteran and served his country honorably in the United States Army. He professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Atwell on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 12pmCT/1pmET in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY 42718. Bro. Freddy Thompson and Bro. Danny Nelson will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Otter Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 700 South Otter Creek Rd, Buffalo, KY 42716 with full military honors being conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 4pm-7pmCT/5pm-8pmET, on Friday, November 25, 2016.

Mr. Johnny Harold Sluder, Taylor Co., KY (1945-2016)

Mr. Sluder professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. He worked at International Harvester in Louisville, the boiler room at Cox Interior in Campbellsville, and was a former bartender at Big John's Liquors.

Mr. Johnny Harold Sluder of Campbellsville was born on June 9, 1945 in Illinois to the late John and Lettie (Cox) Sluder. He departed this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehab Center after an extended illness. He was 71 years, 5 months, and 13 days of age.

Mr. Sluder requested cremation, and those rites were accorded him by the L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville. Visitation was held privately. A public memorial service will be held at a later date.

    • Adair Co. Clerk Lisa Greer's office. Usually open Saturdays, but closed Saturday, November 26.
