TP Scott was great supporter of Adair County Athletics

Mark Fudge, writes:
I'm very saddened by the loss of my dear friend TP Scott. TP was always a loyal fan and patron of Adair County athletics. He kept stats for our boys basketball program for many years and was always 100% accurate. His love for sports could only be matched by his love for his Lord and his family. Thanks, TP, for all your wisdom and support. God has a new great snooker (pool) player on his team. - Mark Fudge

Mike Bosela: Paulownia trees not appropriate for our region

Comments re photo 67839 Trees of Kentucky Paulownia with seed pods

By Mike Bosela

I agree with V. Kolbenschlag, Paulownia trees are not appropriate for planting in our region.

They have large and attractive flowers for a tree, but they are able to spread into natural plant communities and to outcompete our native trees.

Campbellsville Independent Schools is now a tobacco-free school district.

Effective with the start of the 2016-2017 school year, no tobacco or electronic cigarette products will be allowed on Campbellsville Independent Schools' property.

Campbellsville Board of Education members approved the new policy during their regular meeting on Monday, July 11.

Tobacco-free signs are now placed at Campbellsville middle and high school campuses, and will soon be installed at Campbellsville Elementary School.

In May, several Campbellsville High School students presented information about CIS becoming a smoke-free district.

Results from a survey taken by CHS students and parents revealed that an overwhelming majority are in favor of the District becoming smoke- and tobacco-free.

Campbellsville Independent Schools is the 53rd district in Kentucky to adopt a tobacco-free policies. That amount accounts for 31 percent of the school districts in Kentucky.

There are now 586 schools in Kentucky with tobacco-free policies, which equates to 46 percent of Kentucky's students being protected from tobacco use.

According to the CIS tobacco-free policy, all students, personnel and visitors are prohibited from using any tobacco products, including alternative and vapor products, on property owned or operated by the school district.

Tobacco products are also prohibited inside Board-owned vehicles, on the way to and from school and during school-sponsored trips and activities.

Students who violate the policy will be subject to penalties as listed in their school's code of conduct.

On a lighter note, this may be the funniest post-game analysis I've ever read:

The graded school nine of [Columbia] went to Glenville last Saturday [April 29th], expecting to have an easy time wiping up the club at that place, but they made a miscalculation. Glenville boys were in fine trim and when the game closed the score stood 9 to 1 in favor of Glenville.

Remembering TP Scott: Saw many basketball games with him

Comments re article 84835 A family memory of Travis Paul Scott 19412016

Chris Reeder writes:
He was a great friend to many and I always enjoyed talking with him. I was fortunate to be able to see many basketball games with him and our son learned a lot from Mike who we know Coach (TP) Scott was so proud of. He also played a pretty mean game of bank at the pool hall, I never could beat him. Our prayers are with the family and great many friends. --Chris Reeder

A family memory of Travis Paul Scott (1941-2016)

Adair County was deeply saddened when the news came of the passing on August 8, 2016, of an Adair County treasure, Travis Paul Scott, the man who endeared himself to thousands since he was a boy growing up on Graded Hill in Columbia. He had a disarming President Dwight Eisenhower smile, a keen intellect, and had the rare quality of being staunchly partisan, fiercely devoted to his teams, and an almost obsessive interest in sports - all that while never being disagreeable with those he disagreed with. Everyone who knew Travis Paul Scott have wonderful memories, none more than his loving and beloved family. The tribute below is from them. - CM

From the Family of Travis Paul Scott

Travis Paul Scott was born March 2, 1941 to the late Travis Roscoe and Cuiver Eva Sewell Scott he passed away on August 4, 2016 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Pam Janes Scott, one son Mike Scott and his wife Crisst, one granddaughter Raven Helm and two nieces Jennifer Perkins and Leslye Baldwin. A host of family and friends also survive. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Sharlene Scott Davis.

For years, cute little Wrens have been laying their eggs and raising their family inside the housing of the break away mechanism of my son, Cameron's basketball goal.

Each year, for weeks after the babies hatched I would watch them fly in with food for the chicks and fly out with chick manure to keep things tidy and healthy for their family.

After a photo of private citizens maintaining State Rights-of-Way to Country Club Standards in the New Columbia/Greater Bliss area, two letters and more comments ensued. It started with a photo captioned, "Ask Not What Your Commonwealth Can Do for You . . ." which received a ringing endorsement from known Democrat Miss Victoria, urging others to follow suit, lend a hand, and manicure roadsides along their property lines.
