Local resident Donna Rieder, known to most folks as "Miss Donna," is also known as "the goat lady:" she raises Kiko meat goats on her farm in the White Oak community of Adair County, and many photos of her farm and animals have been posted on CM in recent years.

'We're going to change the face of this town!'

By Granddad, Ed Waggener

Hailey is not yet 3 years old, but already she's a great orator. Wednesday morning, after she learned of her Mema's re-election to the Columbia City Council, November 4, 2014 general election, her mother reports that Hailey marched through the house announcing to all, "We're going to change the face of this town!"

That was the extent of her first political speech, a performance she repeated many times, perfecting it. But we know she'll make many more, befitting one who's hometown is the home of the great Kentucky Governor, Martha Layne Collins.

I can, without bias, nominate Hailey to lead the pledge of allegiance at a council meeting room nearby, and just hope she can be at her grandmother's 'swearing ceremony,' when that day comes. GRANDDAD, Ed Waggener.

Jon Halsey: Had hoped for a Black Gnat address

' . . . I truly appreciate the colorful, descriptive names in Adair and surrounding counties. - JON HALSEY

Jon Halsey writes:
And a lovely name it is! Years ago I looked at a map to see where in Kentucky my company was moving me and was enthralled to see that I would be close enough to Black Gnat that I might actually end up having that as my address. Having had Frog Jump TN as a former address (Gibson County in the Western third of the State) I pined for another colorful address. Alas, it was not to be but I truly appreciate the colorful, descriptive names in Adair and surrounding counties. - Jon Halsey
