Clarifying statements made at Hospital public meetings Comments about Spectrum rep claims amount of rejected offer: CONFIDENTIAL By Ralph Roy Waggener Personal commentary by editor of It's Just for a Smile News My comments about West Lake Regional Hospital need to be clarified. If from the beginning we had outside auditors on all our taxing districts, we could have all known how this happened. I have heard by word of mouth that Westlake had a lot of way too high salaries, but it came to me as well as most all of us by word of mouth. Jon Halsey comments on Billy Joe Fudge Hospital proposal Favors private sector solution, but notes a paradox. Asks why "Fiscal Court is rolling over and playing dead in the face of Spectrum's secret investigations and covert actions," and asks why the court cannot unappoint the current board and 'appoint people who have some modicum of knowledge regarding hospital, financial, and managerial administration By Jon Halsey Writer's personal commentary The writer makes some excellent points regarding some of the steps that must be taken regarding the hospital situation. However, I have spent two days pondering the paradox presented in the article. The following seem to be in direct conflict and I'm not sure how it could be resolved:

Chuck Hinman: IJMA No. 153 - Leaving the Nest and Early Days of Flying: Bird #2 It's Just Me Again No. 153 - Leaving the Nest and Early Days of Flying: Bird # by Chuck Hinman was first published 9 May 2008 The next earlier Chuck Hinman column - Chuck Hinman: IJMA 158, Putting up Hay in Olden Days By Chuck Hinman This is the second in a series of three telling of the efforts involved in the three Hinman kids leaving the nest. The country and farmers were just beginning to emerge from the worst economic times ever. Jobs for the unskilled were hard to come by. There was no money for college and it was in the days before technical schools came along. There were some government subsidized programs such as the CCC that provided some jobs for men, but not everyone. Times had been so bad for so long that kids who had reached the age to leave the nest were rightfully pessimistic -- the mighty United States, the "can-do nation" was close to losing its ability to dream. The Hinman family was caught in the center of this with three kids graduating from high school in 1937 (Bob), 1939 (Chuck), and 1944 (Joy Ann). Leaving the Nest and Early Days of Flying: Bird #2 This second segment is about my turn in leaving the nest in those days, not very pretty at times but eventually it happened. Like a pilot positioned on the runway of life, Chuck Hinman is waiting for clearance from the tower that he is cleared to take-off. Vroooom! Mr. Reed commends media work from within Adair Schools New FFA Reporter Diana Trejo's news, photos, get spotlight We are so fortunate to have many gifted writers and photographers among our student body, and within our strong faculty and dedicated staff. Nothing makes me happier than to see them help showcase worthy accomplishments. I want to commend one of our students, FFA reporter Diana Trejo, for the excellent articles she is writing for the media detailing the chapter's accomplishments. In my opinion, Diana is a natural born writer. She also has a "good eye" when it comes to journalistic photography. Over the years I've composed many a radio, television, or newspaper piece. I don't think one was ever as well written as Diana's. I'm sure that Mr. Hancock (Kirby Hancock, FFA Advisor -CM) is also very proud of Diana Trejo and I hope that he will pass along my special appreciation of her exceptional talents in print and electronic media. Sincerely, -Alan W. Reed, Superintendent, Adair County Schools 2012-08-12 04:57:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Education

Seeking higher advice for future of hospital ". . we as Christians of Columbia and Adair County should resort to some higher advice and start a vigil of daily or multi-daily prayer for a solution to this major need. And our hospital is a major need. and prayer does work' - GEORGE RICE By George Rice Personal commentary So everyone wants the hospital. Everyone seems to be pointing fingers. Who is to be blamed for this mess? Why isn't it fixed by now and why did it get in such a mess that no one knows what to do about it. The hospital sale didn't work. The indebtedness keeps growing larger and larger. There is a humorous saying that when you can't put something together after much effort on your own intelligent or lack of intelligent attempts, try reading the instructions. In this case maybe we as Christians of Columbia and Adair County should resort to some higher advice and start a vigil of daily or multi-daily prayer for a solution to this major need. And our hospital is a major need. and prayer does work. We should never under estimate the power of prayer. - George Rice 2012-08-12 04:08:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Commentary Birthdays and Anniversaries for August 12 Happy Anniversary, Dennis and Kathy Powell (1977) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Don and Faye Bault (1961) Happy Anniversary, Ray and Brenda Prock (1960) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Amanda Taylor | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Amy Martin | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Anita Vanarsdale | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Billy Lacy (1940) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Brody Coffey | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Chass Isabelle (1975) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Daniel Ross Kermeen | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Daryl Wilson | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Derrick Shane Pickett (1996) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Graham Waggener (2001) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, John Hojnik (1930) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Lucy Scott Yarberry | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Mollie Quinn | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Nicholas Honaker (2009) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Skyler Moss | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Tanner Lewis | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Trenton Page | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Garnett Davis, 90, Taylor Co., KY (1926-2016) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Rhymon Shorty Claywell, Russell Springs, KY (1939-2018) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Gerald Rousey, Hustonville, KY (1949-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, William Taylor Thistlewaite, MD, Metcalfe County, KY | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Carrie Alice Dillingham, Columbia, KY (1946-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Opal Barger Edwards, Campbellsville, KY (1941-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Randy K.
