Adair County Hospital Board Meeting report, July 31, 2012

Curious statement by CEO on Attorney General Report. Psychiatric unit off to good start. Other hospital census remains disappointing. Good news on Medicaid Debt. Electronic recordkeeping ahead of schedule. Linen service outsourced. Board hires bond counsel. Plan is to leave general obligation bonds open to keep county residents on hook for 'shortfall,' protect bank consortium interest, put district in better position to implement tax which would survive life of Adair Hospital District ownership of hospital. Spectrum CEO says Big Deals by LifePoint delaying action on Columbia sale, maybe portending status of community post Westlake asset sale.

By Ed Waggener

During the Tuesday, July 31, 2012 Regular meeting of the Adair County Hospital Board of Trustees, Mr. Roger Klein, interim CEO, reported on the Hospital Tax issue in a manner which made at least this reporter curious about communications inside Westlake.

Poetry: Dividing poems into lines

By Robert Stone

Haiku are brief poems. The 5-7-5 syllable count is a common one but some writers vary this. Tradition also would like the first line to reference something in nature. I like the thought to fall into three parts represented by the three lines but sometimes that just doesn't happen.
Nature nod, three lines,
seventeen syllable count,
nice but just one way.
I also try to make my sonnets divide by stanzas and also partly but not always by lines. But many years ago I deliberately had a sonnet printed as four sentences with no line breaks. - Robert Stone

Please send events for August 2012

Because of the growing size of the Events database, we are asking regular users to call 270-250-2730 about posts, cancellations, and revisions and corrections. An events posting is complex. For any edits, it is critically important that we have the ID number of the item to be corrected. This is easiest when the reply button, for Events Comments/Corrections is used. With it the operation can be swift and accurate. Without it, a search can take needless time and may result in more errors. -CM

As always, Events simply must have Street & Number for Venue. Otherwise they are not posted.

The Events Calendar has been updated for August 2012. If your organization's events are not in ColumbiaMagazine.com Events, please send as soon as possible to get the the greatest impact for your event.

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful response we've gotten to appeals to submit Events in our format. We especially appreciate the help of the members of the Adair County Ministerial Association, public officials, and schools and institutions. And of course, we appreciate those public minded advertisers and supporters without whom ColumbiaMagazine.com could not be possible.
