Hospital Tax: How much does Westlake hospital really owe?

Joe Hare writes:

When reading and listening to comments on the hospital tax, I have yet to hear a firm amount, as to what the total debt is of the hospital? I do hear comments along the lines of "we really don't know the total", so how can the board know what rate of tax to set?

s/Joe Hare

Thanks, Joe Hare: Maybe we'll finally get concrete answer. At present, there seem to be far more questions surrounding the Westlake situation than answers. Maybe others have questions about the situation they'd like answered, too. - EW

Poetry by Robert Stone: Twilight, a sonnet

Twilight
- a sonnet for Lisa Powell
To rise before the dawn is not in vogue
where energy permits a lighted night
but gentle creep to day allows to rogue
the memories unwanted from soul's sight.

To seize the sunset promise is sweet end
where marching time allows no turning back
but unrelenting drift to sleep will mend
vexations heaped up when routines unpack.

To keep the hope of joy redeems the sad
where spacing ever is too far or near
but ceaseless love is tasked to bring to glad
whatever private treasures are held dear.

Too easy is the life within the husk,
not seeing morning glow or fading dusk.
- Robert Stone, 22 July 2012

News from Gadberry, KY: The Guinea Fowl Capital of the World

Thanks for the heads up, Charles Marshburn: The birds are the Gardener's Best Friends, eating insects. So happy Gadberry, KY has this going for it. I'd encourage everybody with an ounce of Farmer in them to bone up on the vocabulary - get beyond keets and helmeted and the ever present moral dilemma of human intervention into the occasional bigamy of some the species - humankind being so circumspect in this respect - before they venture to pontificate on the subject at the store. -EW

" Wonderfully, it was the boy who saw him first. He looked out of his bedroom window, then looked again and harder -- and dared to hope. No, it was not a trick of the light; a tall figure in a ragged black coat and a ruined old hat was walking down the darkening hillside; and he was heading toward the house.

Carol Perkins: A Golfing Tale

Golf, her husband tells her, is a gentleman's sport. After an all too interesting day on the links with her husband attempting to become a golfing couple - maybe even a golfing family, she made a permanent decision to leave it as he called it: A gentleman's sport. Only Carol or Erma Bombeck has experiences like this one.

Golf is a gentleman's sport. That was what Guy told me when I asked why Tiger would be fined for kicking his golf club. Guy is a golfer. He may only play once a week and claims not to be very good, but he owns a set of clubs, has the right shirts and shoes, and enough golf balls given to him at Christmases to be able hit trees and sink into water traps with others to spare.

And she is the lady with the beautiful voice who helps with the sing-alongs. She is an outstanding and gifted musician who shares her talents for us to enjoy.
