Ron Heath's committee did terrific job for Work Ready

Comments re photo 45692 Adair Work Ready Community application filed on time

Doug McCammish writes:
Probably the most active subcommittee for the Work Ready application was "Soft Skills" led by Ron Heath. That committee also probably had the most difficult and one of the most important sections to write - and they did a terrific job! --Doug McCammish
Thanks, Doug McCammish, for that acknowledgement. I'm hearing that. Mr. Heath did an outstanding job. Now, helping the rest of us understand all we need to know about the "soft skills" needs in the community is something I hope Chairman Alan Reed, Darryl McGaha, Mr. Heath you help the rest of us understand. - EW

Dog had fastest ever adoption at Sugarfoot Rescue

By Peg Schaeffer

Ed, This dog was joined a few days later by another dog, which was his sister.

I picked the dogs up Tuesday morning and they found a home that same day. A woman came to the farm looking for a dog.

Then she said she might even want two. She looked at some of the dogs and while we were talking I mentioned the two I had gotten that morning. I told her they were brother and sister and I didn't want to break them up.

She fell in love and took them home.

This has to be the fastest adoption ever.

I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason and this is proof. - Peg Schaeffer

The Whitehurst Diaries: The story of Teasel

The kitten stopped hissing and a very tentative small purr vibrated her thin sides. Jim, wearing leather gloves, opened the cage and brought her out--a mere scrap of cream and grey fur over fragile bones, her blue eyes wide. Our vet, seeing her two days later, judged her age at 7 or 8 weeks. I searched and kept watch for many days, half expecting to see a mom-cat or siblings, but none appeared. Teasel quickly found her place in our multi-cat household. She brushed off the larger cats who made faces at her, displaying a sense of mischief and adventure. She grew rapidly--we tell her she has 'stretched her stripes.' -SHARON WHITEHURST

Requesting that a cat--or dog--or horse--pose nicely for photos is considerably a more difficult maneuver than bribing a small child with a lollipop.

Teasel was rather bored by this particular photo session until I sprinkled some dried [home-grown] catnip on the quilt as a bribe.

Those three dogs found: 1 adopted; other two at Sugarfoot Farm

Kimberly Gutelius writes:
We are glad to report that one of the three dogs has found a forever home.
The other 2 wonderful dogs are staying at Sugarfoot Farm for a little while until they can find homes too. Peg Schaeffer has once again saved the day, but she needs help in all of her hard work. Please consider Sugarfoot if you are thinking of adding a four legged member to your family. --Kimberly Gutelius
Thanks, Kimberly Gutelius: The ad is no longer active, awaiting possible posting by Peggy Schaffer from Sugarfoot Farm Rescue. Thanks for all you do. And thanks to Sugarfoot Farm Rescue for doing its work. As well as adopting one of the animals there, it doesn't hurt to make donations of pet food or money. Peg's aim is that no animal be euthanized - they never are at Sugarfoot - and she operates with a noble standard that many units of government would do well to emulate: She works for the day when her work will no longer be needed. - EW
