Carol Perkins: They come out of the woodwork Previous Column: A valuable legacy By Carol Perkins "They come out of the woodwork." Have you heard that expression referring to family members who never visit Mama or Daddy, or call, and when it comes time to read the will, they are all "in." I find this to be more common than not, after speaking with many who have been through this painful ordeal. So far, I have had no problems as an executor, but I can see how it happens. When my mother was in the nursing home, I talked to the residents as I headed for my mother's room. We often engaged in conversations about the weather or something I was wearing. One lady loved my red coat. During my daily visits, I seldom saw a visitor. Writer Rodney White remembers Adair County Fair By Rodney White whiterm55@gmail.com In all of my years attending horse shows and horse races at the fair during the 1960s and 1970s, the races were by far the most exciting and memorable, and most of the memorable events happened on Saturday, the last day of racing. One of my favorite memories was when a horse named Roy Freeman ran through the fence on the final turn in the Adair County Derby. He then ran out the entrance gate in the barn area, turned right on Fairground Street, and then made another right turn and headed down Wain Street. Thinking we might help catch the horse, my brother and I gave chase on foot. We ran as far as our house at the corner of Oak Street and Campbellsville Street before we gave out.
