Extension Services showcased at June Chamber

Leaders Nick Roy and Dylan Gentry presented the services of Adair County's Cooperative Extension Service at the June Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting. They also provided a meal featuring Adair County farm foods.

Dylan's presentation was spotlighted by the locally grown meal ingredients served to all in attendance. He noted a round of applause was due to the volunteers who had been working all morning to prepare and serve the meal. The menu follows:

Torry Ryder, 57, Russell County, KY

Torry S. Ryder, 57, of Russell Springs, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025 at home.

He was born in Bangor, ME. on May 17, 1968, was raised by the late Cee and Kay Stephens.

Basketball: Indians lose tight games at RCHS

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Monday, June 16, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team played their latest bit of summer ball action, this time at Russell County High School. The Indians fell in their opener 57-54 to the Warriors of Southwestern, and 75-73 in the second game to the host Russell County Lakers.

In the game against Russell County, the Indians trailed the majority of the game, but took their first lead of the second half 73-72 with under a minute to go. The Lakers unfortunately were able to pull it out, thanks to some free throws with less than a second to go. The leading scorer for the Tribe was Landon Blakey with 27, followed by John Shehan with 19.

The team will wrap up summer ball action as they head to the KABC Bluegrass Shootout beginning this Saturday, June 21, 2025.

This service is available to any veteran needing help with a claim. Please bring your recent paperwork from VA for any other claims. If you wish to apply for admission into the VA system bring a copy of your DD-214.

Geneva Precious Marr Hall, 95, Green County, KY

Geneva Precious Marr Hall of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Elva Leslie Marr and Maude Francis Milby Marr, was born on Sunday, January 26, 1930 in Green County and departed this life on Monday, June 16, 2025. She was 95 years, 4 months, and 21 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Oak Forest Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She worked as a machine operator for Fruit of the Loom and operated a restaurant in Summersville.

Lightning danger begins at first sound of thunder

If you are outdoors when you first hear thunder, seek shelter. The best shelter is indoors or in a hard-topped car. The worst shelter is under a tree, by a utility poll or any isolated tall structure. Even standing near a tree is dangerous since lightning travels along the ground surface.

Never wait to take shelter until it starts raining or you hear thunder. By the time it starts to rain, lightning can already be operating up to 10 miles from the rain area. When you hear thunder, the danger is imminent.

Adair Russell Casey Center gets new location

The ARC Pregnancy Center, located in Russell County, held groundbreaking last week for a new facility. The ARC Center is named after the area it supports - Adair, Russell, and Casey Counties.

The Center offers parenting classes and pregnancy tests and information. In 2024 the center served 1,743 clients, held 38 parenting classes, and distributed 1,566 dozen of diapers. They also distributed 64 car seats, and 171 large baby items.
