Letter: Extended internet/phone outage in Oak Grove By Jacquelyn Montgomery Several Windstream customers in the Oak Grove area of Adair County have been without internet and phone service since May 16, 2025. The automated message sent out every one to three days references "an area wide outage" that is expected to be resolved by tomorrow or the next day. No other explanation has been forthcoming via the Go Kinetic App, live text or phone. Understanding the cause and reasons for the delay would be much more helpful than the automated message with promises we no longer believe. Use the CM Comment Form if you are also experiencing this outage, or have more information about the cause or expected duration. 2025-06-12 17:35:01 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Flag Day: 14 June 2025 Columbia and Adair County have the wonderful tradition of flying the American flag on city streets and at businesses. I doubt that you can stand anywhere within the Columbia city limits and not see an American flag flying. The same goes for homes out in Adair County. We are a community who gives honor to the symbol of our country. From Russell Lunsford, Commander VFW Post 6097 Columbia Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on June 14, the anniversary of the flag's official adoption. What we know fondly as the "Stars and Stripes" was adopted by the Continental Congress as the official American flag on June 14, 1777, during the Revolutionary War. Colonial troops had been fighting under many different flags with various symbols--rattlesnakes, pine trees, and eagles. The early flags had inspirational slogans; "Don't Tread on Me," "Liberty or Death," "Conquer or Die." On that 14th of June, Congress made the Flag Resolution of 1777, stating: "The flag of the United States shall be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white, with a union of thirteen stars of white on a blue field ..." Vonnie Kolbenschlag announces new book Vonnie Kolbenschlag has announced the publication of her latest book, Bible Stones Show The Way, which will be available for purchase on June 14, 2025, at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, for an introductory price of $20 per copy. Editors of the book note that it "highlights the physical and symbolic importance of the earliest Biblical stories, inviting readers to deepen their understanding of scripture and its profound, timeless messages. 'The Way' was a term used by early Christians to identify themselves, referring to Jesus saying, 'I am the Way.'" Vonnie says, "Did you ever wonder how or where the Bible originated? Or, why it originated in the area called the Fertile Crescent, also called the Cradle of Civilization? I wondered, and as I learned, I decided to write a book about the early civilizations where Bible stories originated. I noticed that many Bible stories related to stones, so I checked a Bible's concordance and wrote short stories referencing stones in both Old and New Testaments." The book also contains chapters with meanings of names and definitions of persons and places in Biblical history. There is a short chapter on historical stones now in museums. These stones relate to Bible happenings. Bible Stones Show The Way can also be ordered online at Amazon, Thriftbooks, and Barnes and Noble Bookstores. 2025-06-12 08:49:26 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Books Birthdays and Anniversaries for June 12 Happy Anniversary, Brent Geoffrey and Brandy Thompson (2002) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Roger and Amanda Firkins (2004) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Tony and Lorene Martens (1960) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Anita Marie Grace George (2004) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ashley Withers Adams | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Ashton Raikes | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Brandon Bennett (1988) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Donna Bean | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Emma Claire Bryant (2008) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, John Ford | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Kacy Corbin Wilson (1991) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Kelci Rhea Feese | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Kristina Nichole Burton (1992) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Mary Jean Burton | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Tasha Burton and Trisha Burton | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Betty Keltner, Taylor County, KY (1931-2014) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Roger Garfield Gosser, Sr., Russell Springs, KY (1947-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Juanita Charlotte Hodges, Greensburg, KY (1937-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Leona Frazier Hitchcock, Greensburg, KY (1936-2019) | (Updates/Corrections) In Memory Birthday, Frances D.
