Came across this small red mushroom while walking in the woods. It looks like it might have been tasted by the local wildlife, but then not eaten.

Letter: Tasty Freeze

Phyllis Curry writes:
I am pretty sure my Uncle Clyde Pendleton owned this in the late 1950s or early 1960s. I remember my cousins, Sue and Janet, working there. I think the Coles had it in the late 60s or early 70s. I loved eating there!

Basketball: Indians in Lindsey Wilson Shootout play

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

The Adair County Indians Boys Basketball teams are back in summer ball action today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in the first day of the Lindsey Wilson Shootout. All of the ACHS games will be played in the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY.

The Tribe will face Thomas Nelson at 10:30amCT, and then Green County at 2:30pmCT in their varsity matchups, both on Wellness Court 1.

The Freshman team will face the Bardstown Freshman team on Wellness Court 2 at 11:30amCT, and the Indians JV will face Bardstown JV on Wellness Court 1 at 3:30pmCT.

Looking at the varsity matchups, the first comes against the Thomas Nelson Generals, a team that went 12-17 last season and graduated six seniors. The Generals, much like Adair County, are a team looking to fill a lot of holes from players that recently graduated. Two of Thomas Nelson's top three scorers from last season graduated and in total the team lost 56% of their scoring from last season.

The Green County Dragons are a team coming off a 24-4 season that ended in the 5th Region Tournament. The Dragons also lost many key players from last season, graduating 53% of their production. Green County also saw a coaching change as former Taylor County coach and Green County assistant Montrelle Irvin took over as the head coach during the offseason.

Come out and support the Indians as they play in Columbia today!

Basketball: Indians split games at Metcalfe Team Camp

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

In their latest bit of summer ball action, the Adair County Indians Boys Basketball team defeated the Monroe County Falcons by 12, but fell to the Cumberland County Panthers by four in two games played at Metcalfe County High School on Monday, June 9, 2025.

The first game was against the Falcons of Monroe County, a team that went 14-15 last season and saw their season end in the first round of the 16th District Tournament. However, Monroe County was a young team last season, graduating just two seniors who combined to make up just 10% of the team's scoring from last year. The Falcons return 90% of their scoring from last season, one of the highest rates of any team around.

The Cumberland County Panthers are a team that just seems to have Adair County's number. The Tribe dropped a regular season game on the road in Burkesville back in December--the first game Adair County had dropped to Cumberland County since 2012--and another close lose to the Panthers, albeit a summer ball one, will likely only add meaning to when the Indians and Panthers face off again, most likely during the upcoming regular season.

The Indians have a quick turnaround, as they begin three days of games in the Lindsey Wilson Shootout today, Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
