New food pantry in Edmonton at Bowling Park

Troy Scott Stephens, age 61, of Jamestown, KY passed away Wednesday, May 21 2025 in Jamestown.

He was born on Friday, February 07 1964, in Somerset, KY.

He was the son of Ruth Oaks Stephens and Milburn "Pete" Stephens, who preceded him in death.

Class of 2025: Seniors honored for scholarships

ACHS Class of 2025 coverage on Columbia Magazine:

More than 75 students from the Adair County High School Class of 2025 have earned scholarships to pursue post-secondary education. Students received scholarships to attend local favorites Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University, Kentucky institutions such as the University of Kentucky, Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, and Asbury University, plus Vanderbilt University, the University of Virginia, and places as far away as Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, the New York Institute of Technology, and the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The following students were recognized for their scholarship awards at the Adair County High School Senior Awards Event on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium:

State releases county unemployment data for April 2025

Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates fell in 81 counties, rose in 31 counties and stayed the same in eight counties between April 2024 and April 2025, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet. Locally, both Adair and Russell Counties fell below 4% for April, 2025.

Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 3.1%. It was followed by Fayette and Scott counties, 3.3% each; Jessamine and Todd counties, 3.4% each; Caldwell County, 3.5%; Boone, Bourbon and Harrison counties, 3.6%; and Campbell, Kenton and Oldham counties, 3.7% each.

Martin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate at 9.3%. It was followed by Magoffin County, 8.3%; Lewis County, 7.7%; Elliott County, 7.4%; Wolfe County, 7.1%; Menifee County, 6.8%; Jackson County, 6.6%; Lawrence County, 6.5%; and Carter and Harlan counties, 6.4% each.

ACHS SBDM Parent Representative voting until 3pm Thursday

Elections for two parent representatives on the ACHS School-Based Decision Making Council will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Ballots may be cast by stopping by ACHS between 8amCT and 3pmCT.

To be eligible to vote in the election, you must be a parent, step-parent, or foster parent (or the child's legal guardian and the child lives with you) of a student who will be enrolled in ACHS during the 2025-2026 school year.
