Courthouse update: Clock Tower restoration beginning soon

From Lee Ann Jessee

The project that will begin shortly is restoration of the clock tower. That work should begin soon, weather permitting, and be finished by end of June, 2025. The clock will chime again and keep time again once the work on it is completed.

After that project, most of the outside work will be finished. We will then start planning what needs to be completed on the inside. This will probably include electrical, plumbing and HVAC.

Letter: On the finer points of bird identification

Dave Rosenbaum writes:
I always like the photos of birds but wish you would correctly identify them. Even with a Yellow Hammer education, I know that bird today is a shikepoke.
Pen says: Dave, you make an excellent point, and we always appreciate a comment that sends us down an etymological rabbit hole.

Wikipedia's entry on the Heron name explains part of this nickname, and we also found a great article by Julie Zickefoose at 10000birds.com that goes a little further in putting the pieces together. I remember dad using that phrase over the years, but I'm not entirely sure he was talking about birds.
