Dorothy Cowan's art showcased at Adair Arts Dorothy Cowan's art is on display in the Highland Station Art Gallery in the southern Adair County community she grew up in - Sparksville, KY. She attended school in a one-room school house, married at age 16, and birthed three babies. She didn't know she could draw or paint anything until after all her children were grown. One day a friend of hers left a book on the table about a horse and Dorothy drew it. Chief Charles W. Shaw July 5, 1946 - April 20, 2025 Charles (Charlie) Shaw, age 78, of Campbellsville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his home. Born on July 5, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Q. Shaw and Dorothy Brown Shaw. Winfred Bonta, 92, Taylor County, KY Winfred S. Bonta was born October 19, 1932 in Green County, KY to the late William Clarence and Stella Pauline Wright Bonta. He departed this life Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Green River Trails Nursing Home, having attained the age of 92 years. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Ladies Chapel Methodist Church. He was a farmer and a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death April 24, 2019 by his wife Dorothy Pickett Bonta. He is also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother: Marilyn and Joyce Simpson and Bill Bonta. Anita Ann Brown, 70, Adair County, KY Anita Ann Brown, of Columbia, Kentucky, passed away at Russell County Hospital on Saturday, April 19, 2025. She was 70 years of age. Born March 2, 1955, in Rochester, New York, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Nancy (Visconte) McRobbie. Anita was an avid equestrian throughout her entire life. She was a barrel racer and equestrian drill team member in her younger years. She especially enjoyed riding her horses in parades, which she did in several capacities, including as DAV Auxiliary New York State Commander. Anita became a certified equine chiropractor and operated Caring Hands Equine Chiropractic here in Kentucky. Unemployment rises in most of Adair Co. area for March 2025 From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Unemployment rates rose in 112 counties-- including Adair, Casey, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor--fell in four (Bath, Bracken, Hopkins and Morgan) counties and stayed the same in four (Carroll, Cumberland, Harrison and Montgomery) counties between March 2024 and March 2025, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 4.2%. It was followed by Shelby County, 4.5%; Fayette County, 4.6%; Oldham and Scott counties, 4.7% each; Harrison, Jessamine, Todd and Washington counties, 4.8% each; and Boone, Kenton and Spencer counties, 4.9% each. Lindsey students learn art and etiquette of the business meal From Duane Bonifer Campbellsville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College School of Business and Communication gave students valuable social lessons Tuesday night. The school's faculty hosted a professional etiquette dinner for about 50 undergraduate students on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Swan's Landing in Taylor County. In addition to receiving etiquette tips to utilize at business lunches and interviews from Swan's Landing co-owner Sherri Botkin '94, students heard a keynote address about leadership and soft skills that should be cultivated and nurtured from Sarah Culver '04 of Lead4Change, a national nonprofit organization based in Louisville, Kentucky.
