Susie Rachel Burton, 91, Columbia, KY (1933-2025) Susie Rachel (Holmes) Burton of Columbia passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at her residence. She was 91 years old. Funeral services will be held at 1pmCT on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Dennie Foriest officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue Wednesday until the time of the service. Basketball: Indians defeat Bruins 69-52 By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Central Hardin Bruins in the first round of the 5th Region tournament hosted at Marion County High School. The team struggled early to make shots, scoring just 8 in the first quarter and trailing by 6 at the end of the first. The team battled back and cut into the Central Hardin lead during the second quareter, and ended leading by one at the half. In the second half, the Indians began to pull away, ultimately winning by a score of 69 to 52. Isaiah Cochran led the scoring for the Indians with 21, followed by Brayton Coomer with 15 and Connor Loy with 12. Cochran posted an impressive double/double, adding 13 rebounds to lead the team, followed by Connor Loy and Lane Grant with 5 each. The team shot 52% from the floor, but struggled from distance, going just 1 for 8 from three on the night. The team posted an impressive 33 rebounds in the game. Adair County now sits just two games away from a return to the state tournament. KSP: Fatal collision investigated Taylor County Campbellsville, KY - (March 10, 2025) - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle injury collision at the intersection of Meader Street and Handley Avenue in Taylor County, located in the city limits of Campbellsville, on March 9, 2025, at 4:13 P.M. EST. The preliminary investigation revealed that Howard Poling, 78, of Campbellsville, was traveling east on Handley Avenue in a 2003 Ford Expedition when he attempted to cross Meader Street to continue east on Coakley Street. Mr. Poling failed to see a moped traveling north on Meader Street, operated by Johnny Dickens, 55, of Campbellsville, colliding with it. Johnny Dickens was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Taylor County Coroner. Howard Poling was not injured during the collision. James Shearl Murphy, 91, Casey County, KY James Shearl Murphy, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville. He was 91. Born on June 15, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Herman and Elsie Brown Murphy. Shearl was a farmer and a retired United States Postal Service carrier. He was a member of Noel's Chapel First Church of God. He loved to play music, especially the guitar and keyboard, and was a former member of the Crestonaire's music group. Shearl was a United States Air Force veteran having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bud Cain, 63, Casey County, KY Bud Cain, of Carr Sasser Road, in Liberty, went home to Heaven, at 11:14 P.M. on Friday, March 7, 2025. He was 63 years and 9 days of age. Bud was born on Monday, February 26, 1962, in Somerset, the youngest and only son, born to the union of Ancil Cooper, Sr. and Mildred Evelyn Carr Cain. Bud was a member of Liberty Church of Christ, being the minister for over three decades. Throughout his years in ministry, Bud preached the gospel at many churches throughout the area. He loved to read and study the Bible, wearing many Bibles threadbare. Whether he was preaching a sermon or having a small Bible study with family and friends, his main goal was to please God and win souls for Him.
