By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

The Lady Indians fell in the first round of the 5th Region tournament to Bardstown, 56-49, at Marion County High School. The night was spoiled for Adair County largely thanks to a poor performance rebounding the ball.

However, the team will end the season at 17-13, the best record for the program since the 2015-2016 season. Freshman Allee Campbell was named to the 5th Region All Tournament team thanks to her performance in the game.

Lindsey Wilson has nearly $100M annual impact on Adair County

From Duane Bonifer

Lindsey Wilson College is worth nearly $100 million annually to Adair County. That's one of the findings of a recent economic impact study released by the Association of Kentucky Colleges and Universities.

The study, conducted by Quinnipiac (Connecticut) University economics professor Mark Paul Gius, shows that collectively Kentucky's 18 independent, nonprofit colleges and universities contributed $2.06 billion to the state and local economies during 2021-22, the most recent period for which data was available. A school's total economic impact can be measured in terms of the direct and induced economic impact of a university's activity on the local economy.

Lindsey Wilson's direct impact on the Adair County economy in 2021-22 was $91 million. But as Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. pointed it, the college's impact on the county has grown a great deal since the most recent study was conducted.

Tommy Druen: The Power of the Small

Previous Column: Holes in the water

By Tommy Druen

Libraries have always felt like a second home for me. Perhaps that's because, unlike most kids, I spent an inordinate amount of time in one. It wasn't just that I loved reading--though that is certainly true. No, my time there came courtesy of my mother, who was our school librarian. As a result, after-school hours and long summer days often found me among the burgeoning shelves.

When you're in elementary and middle school, confined to a library that, until seventh grade, lacked even a television, you find ways to occupy yourself. I read books, magazines, and newspapers. I listened to records--yes, actual vinyl. I constructed elaborate paperclip chains (for which I should probably issue a belated apology to my mother). And though it has been a while, I suspect I could still load a filmstrip projector with reasonable skill.

Spending that much time among the easy fiction books for the youngest of readers caused me to form some opinions.
