History: Dr. Nathan and Mrs. Martha Gaither Each year members of the community portray residents who lived and died here and are buried in the historic Columbia Cemetery. They research the lives of those residents and speak as if they could talk to the folks stopping by their gravesites. Dr. Nathan Gaither 1788-1862 The story from Dr. Nathan Gaither 1788-1862 was presented by J.D. Zornes. J.D. spoke, as Dr. Gaither, about his life, "I was born in 1788 in Rowan County, North Carolina, son of Nicholas Gaither, a Major in the Revolutionary War who served in the army that defeated British forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain. I moved to Kentucky around 1808. The Gaither family likely originated from Maryland, near Washington or Baltimore, as referenced by a local park named after the Gaithers. Leadership Metcalfe 2025 moving toward graduation By Kim Harwood Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director The 2025 Chamber Leadership group has five classes behind them and are on target for May graduation. A total of seven classes makes up the Leadership Metcalfe Program, and each month is facilitated by a volunteer who is knowledgeable in that field of study. The annual February trip to Frankfort did not look promising this year so I reached out to Facilitator, Eric Sexton, who oversees the Frankfort trip and the class on Economic Development. Basketball: Lady Indians defeat Lady Eagles 52-51 By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Monday, February 24, 2025 the Adair County Lady Indians Girls Varsity Basketball team defeated the Campbellsville Lady Eagles 52-51 at home in the first round of the 20th District tournament. The game was tight the whole way through, with the largest lead during the game for either team being 11. The Lady Indians fell behind by three at the end of the first quarter and then trailed by five at the half. The team kept battling and was only down two at the end of the third before taking a two point lead with 2 minutes left in the game. The game would be tied back up by Campbellsville with just over a minute left before the Lady Indians were able to pull out the win.
