Randal Rafferty, 75, Taylor County, KY

Randal Rafferty of Campbellsville, son of the late Elbert Carter Rafferty and Pauline Colvin Rafferty, was born July 24, 1949 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Louisville at age 75.

He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.

Family Resource and Youth Services Centers honored

The week through February 14, 2025 was designated as "FRYSC Coordinators Appreciation Week" by the City of Columbia. Mayor Pam Hoots shared the following proclamation:

WHEREAS: Family Resource and Youth Services Centers remove the non-academic barriers to student achievement, bridge the gaps to needed resources, and collaborate the resources of schools and communities for the success of students, families, and communities;

Doris Cary, 67, Cumberland County, KY

Dorothy M "Doris" Cary, age 67 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Cumberland County Hospital. Doris was born on August 07, 1957 in Cumberland County, KY to Bessie Hulse Willis and the late Paul Willis.

She was a member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ. She was a former seamstress for Bob Evans and had also worked for the Conservation District, the Corner Pool Room and Cagles.

Four Bridges String Quartet in Glasgow, Columbia, Campbellsville

The Four Bridges String Quartet from Chattanooga, Tennessee, will be in concert in Central Kentucky over the next three days in Glasgow, Columbia, and Campbellsville.
  1. The Glasgow Musicale is sponsoring their program at 3pmCT on Sunday, February 16, 2025, in the First Christian Church, 1100 N. Race Street, Glasgow, KY

  2. The Department of Music at Lindsey Wilson College is sponsoring their performance at 3pmCT on Monday, February 17, 2025, in the W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall, 155 Blue Raider Drive, Columbia, KY

  3. A performance sponsored by the Central Kentucky Arts Series will be at 4pmCT/5pmET on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the First Methodist Church, 317 E. Main St., Campbellsivlle, KY. A pre-concert reception will be held at the Campbellsville location from 4:15pmET to 4:45pmET.
Named for the four bridges that cross the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, the quartet performs classical to folk music on violins, viola, and cello. Campbellsville native Gabrielle Roberts Sweets serves as first violinist.

Adair County Updated Road Closures for Sunday afternoon

Adair County has the following road closures:
  • Purdy Sano Road in the area of the 1000 block next to the bridge.
  • Charlie Morrison Road & Greenbriar Road Intersection next to the bridge.
Please use caution in these areas & have an alternate route as the roadways have been washed out due to the high volume of rainfall that we have experienced!

If anyone has any questions or comes upon a washed out roadway please contact Adair County E911 Center at 270-384-4760!

Warnings continue Sunday - travel with caution

The flood Warning will stay in effect today, Sunday, February 16, 2025 until 3pmCT. Many roads in the CM seven county area have been closed and the Winter Weather Advisory continues in effect until 5.

Temperatures have fallen to the freezing mark, changing the rain to snow. It's a time to use extreme caution when walking and driving. Remember the guidelines from Grant Loy, Director of Adair County Emergency Management:
  • Floods cause the second highest annual death rates among weather-related hazards, mainly due to drowning.

  • Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock an adult off their feet.

  • Twelve inches of fast-moving water can move a vehicle .

  • Two feet of water can carry off a truck.

Basketball: Loy and Cochran earn Regional honors

Senior Adair County guard Connor Loy has been named 5th Region Player of the Year by the 5th Region Coaches Association.

Connor Loy had this to say about what it means, "It's a pretty cool accomplishment, couldn't have done without help of my teammates and coaches"

Indians head coach Deron Breeze had this to say about Loy being named all region player of the year, "Well deserved, puts in a lot of extra hours on his own without being asked to do it has paid off. Has always been serious, never a distraction to the team over his six year career and with the career he has had there was no other possible choice for player of the year in the fifth region."

The Indians also saw Senior Isaiah Cochran named to the All Region Team, and Coach Deron Breeze receive votes for Coach of the year.

CPD: Officers respond to report of assault in ACRJ

The Columbia Police responded to Adair Regional Jail shortly after 10pmCT on Saturday night, February 15, 2025, after jail staff reported an assault between two male inmates. The victim was transported to TJ Samson Columbia for treatment before being returned to jail for injuries.

KYTC District 8 High Water Report Sunday morning

Somerset, KY - Following heavy rainfall across District 8, several roadways continue to experience high water levels, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Drivers are reminded to never drive through a flooded roadway. Even a small amount of rushing water can carry a vehicle away, and underlying pavement damage may not be visible.

As winter weather moves into the area, road crews remain on standby, prepared to treat routes as needed. Motorists should remain alert for changing weather and road conditions, especially as temperatures drop and precipitation transitions to snow.

The following state roads in District 8 are currently impacted by high water:

Adair County
  • KY 767 MP 1-2
  • KY 768 MP 3-4
Casey County

Charles Robertson, 85, Russell County, KY

Charles G. Robertson, age 85, of Russell Springs, KY passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Russell County Hospital.

He was born on Saturday, June 17, 1939, in the Font Hill Community of Russell County, Kentucky.
