LWC Nursing students get tips from Blue Raider alumnae

By Duane Bonifer

Lindsey Wilson College nursing seniors heard first-hand what the profession is like from three Blue Raider alumnae who were in their seats 12 months ago. Three members of the Lindsey Wilson Class of 2024 who graduated last spring with a bachelor of science degree in nursing spoke Friday morning in the Dr. Robert and Carol Goodin Nursing & Counseling Center to 12 nursing seniors in the college's "Leadership in Nursing Class."

The alumnae gave the students job advice, advice on how to maintain a healthy work-life balance and questions to ask prospective employers. The alumnae also offered tips on how to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination - the nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in which Lindsey Wilson nursing majors have recorded a very high pass rate.

Gov. Beshear declares state of emergency ahead of heavy rain

From Crystal Staley/James Hatchett

Frankfort, KY - On February 14, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency as a flood watch is in effect for early Saturday, February 15, through midday Sunday, February 16, 2025. Another 2 to 5 inches of rainfall is expected, and, combined with previous rainfall over the past several days, will likely result in flooding across the state.

Significant flooding is possible, including widespread areal, river and isolated flash flooding. According to the National Weather Service, river flooding is very likely this weekend through next week. Significant flooding is expected where the heaviest rain falls.

"We want everyone to be careful," Gov. Beshear said. "The amount of rain coming down will make it hard to drive, and flash flooding, especially across our roads, can create dangerous conditions. And remember, don't drive through standing water, it can have a current, and it is incredibly dangerous."
