Migrant Education Program offered in Adair The Migrant Education Program (MEP), found under Title 1 Part C, is a supplemental educational program that was created as a way to help remove educational barriers for children who move as a result of the migrant lifestyle (seasonal or temporary farming labor). Any individual or family who has crossed district, state, or country lines to seek work in seasonal or temporary agriculture in the last 3 years could potentially qualify for Migrant Education Program Services. Rodger D. Williams, 80, Taylor County, KY Rodger D. Williams, 80, of Campbellsville, son of the late David Williams and Eunice Stayton Williams was born July 28th, 1944 in Campbellsville. He departed this life on Monday, January 27th, 2025 at his home in Campbellsville. Rodger united in marriage to Ms. Paulette Shipp on May 18th, 1963. She survives. Rodger was a retired bus driver for the Taylor County School Systems. He served as a deputy sheriff serving under Sheriff John Shipp. He also worked in the family-owned business, Williams Furniture, in Elk Horn. Rodger served honorably in the United States Navy. Rodger professed faith in Christ and was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Adair Co. Genealogical Society to meet Feb 3 From Mike Watson The next regular meeting of the Adair County Genealogical Society will be held at 5pmCT on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. The subject will be Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the beginning effort to create a chapter in Adair County. (Weather cancelled the January 6th meeting and this has been rescheduled.) Any descendant of an individual who was a soldier/sailor or who provided patriotic service to the cause for independence during the Revolution is eligible for membership in SAR and DAR. (Sons in SAR and Daughters in DAR). Lineage must be documented and that is what this meeting helps to address. Come be part of this historic move toward a local SAR chapter. Kimberly R. Bryant, 66, Columbia, KY (1958-2025) Kimberly Rae "Kim" Bryant of Columbia passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at her residence. She was 66 years old. Registration for 4-H Summer Camp starts Feb 3 By Tony Rose Adair County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development Youth from Adair County can go to the 4-H camp at Lake Cumberland 4-H Center June 10-13, 2025, with 4-H'ers from Green, Taylor, and Wayne Counties. The total cost for the Camp is $325.00, which includes lodging, meals, etc. There are camping spots available for approximately 25 boys and 60 girls. Campers will take part in an organized program of activities such as swimming, boating, archery, hiking, crafts, outdoor education, folk games, campfires, group sports, and more. There'll be new friends and you'll learn more about citizenship, leadership, and getting along with others. We will leave on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, and return on Friday, June 13, 2025. The 4-H Agent will attend the entire camp as well as several adult and teen leaders from Adair County. The group will travel via Adair County School buses with regular bus drivers driving. Scholarship applications to attend the 4-H camp are available upon request. ALL CAMPERS will be required to pay the $100.00 non-fundable deposit upon registration to secure a spot. Basketball: ACHS Lady Indians head to Somerset High By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team goes on the road to face the Somerset Briar Jumpers (4-12). The game is set to tip at 5:30pmCT/6:30pmET at Somerset High School, 301 College St, Somerset, KY. The Lady Indians come off a tough 9 point loss to Taylor County last Friday, while the Briar Jumpers come off a 33-32 loss to Berea just yesterday. Somerset's next prior outing was a 70-16 loss at Pulaski County. The two teams share a mutual opponent in Casey County.
