Time to pack the house for Indians and Lady Indians By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer During my time as a staff writer for Columbia Magazine I have seen many highs and lows for Adair County athletics, specifically Adair County Basketball. I have sat through disappointing losses, like the Indians trip to Burkesville earlier this season, or the Lady Indians unsuccessful bid to mount a second half comeback against Campbellsville the last time they faced the Lady Eagles. On the other hand, I have been blessed to cover some amazing moments, such as our incredible state tournament bid last season, and the Lady Indians crowning a new program leader in various statistical categories. (Also, last season). During my time covering Adair athletics, I have sat in some electric gyms and also some pretty empty ones; I watched our Lady Indians defeat Holy Cross in a neutral site game where I likely would have been able to hear if one of the players dropped a pin on the court. On the other hand, I have experienced capacity or over gyms, such as seen at Green County High School for last year's 5th region boy's tournament, and a very rowdy Cumberland County High School during Adair County's visit there this season. The point of this is to say that environment matters, it matters for players, it matters for coaches, it matters for our team. This year, Adair County has seen district opponents Taylor County and Campbellsville do their best to pack the gym against both our Indians and Lady Indians. Now, it is time for us to do the same. The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals come to our town on Friday night, and John Burr Memorial needs to be electric! This game will likely determine our seeding come district tournament time for both the boys' and girls' teams. Carol Perkins: A Face with the Voice Previous Column: Sounds of Aging By Carol Perkins I closed my eyes as the hairdryer warmed my scalp on that frigid day that I had my hair done. That's what I call it: "Having my hair done." With my back to the hairdresser's station beside me, I listened to her and her client's conversation. It was unavoidable. The lady asked the hairdresser interesting questions, which led to whether or not she went to church. I've never had the nerve to witness to a stranger. The girl said she didn't, so she continued asking about her faith. The conversation continued. I learned the customer had made a career in the military and lived with her mother. She was seventy years old but sounded much older, I thought, as I gauged the way she sounded to my age. LWC plans new Residence Hall, Regional Performing Arts Center It will be a busy 2025 at Lindsey Wilson College as two buildings will be added to the A.P. White Campus - a residence hall and regional performing arts center. The two projects, which will be a combined $24 million investment in the campus, will help "transform this college so that it can continue to meet our students' growing needs," said Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr. "A big reason we are able to undertake these two major projects is because Lindsey Wilson has never been stronger in its 122-year history," said Luckey, who noted that the college enrolled more than 4,000 students last fall. "During a time when many colleges and universities are contracting, Lindsey Wilson is expanding. With a record number of students and an outstanding faculty, the timing is right for Lindsey Wilson to add these two important buildings to our campus." The residence hall, which will feature apartment-style living, will be ready for the 2026-27 school year. The regional performing arts center, which will include two performance spaces, will also be opened during the 2026-27 school year. Groundbreaking ceremonies for both projects will be held in March.
