"Lena" as she was fondly called, was born in Adair County on September 27, 1932, daughter of the late Jim and Gertrude Scott Brown. Her faithful servitude continued throughout her life, being a devoted pastor's wife and later, after their son, Gene, surrendered to ministry, a devoted pastor's mother. There were countless Sundays Ms. Lena would feed over 50 people after church. She was a seamstress, taking in alterations and sewing projects for everyone over the years. In younger days, Ms. Lena worked at the Brown Hotel in Louisville and then, for seven years, ran their family restaurant in Russell Springs, The Burger Palace.

Basketball: Lady Indians headed to South Warren HS

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team will be back on the hardwood to face the South Warren Lady Spartans (5-11). Tipoff is is scheduled for 7pmCT at South Warren High School, 8140 Nashville Rd, Bowling Green, KY, and tickets are available from GoFan.

The Lady Indians--winners of now 4 straight games--come off a 71-42 win over Marion County, while the Lady Spartans come off a 29-27 loss to Greenwood.

The two teams share two mutual opponents, Green County and Glasgow. Earlier in the season, the Lady Indians fell to Green by 19 and defeated Glasgow by 5, both at home. Meanwhile the Lady Spartans defeated Green County by 11 at home and split a two game series with Glasgow losing by 5 on neutral court and winning by a large margin at home.

Similar to the Marion County game, a likely path to victory for Adair County tonight will be to score in a big way, because South Warren is 0-9 when they give up more than 42 points, and 5-2 when they do not. The Lady Indians will also look to slow down Junior McLaine Hudson, who has led South Warren in scoring in three of their last four games.

Basketball: Indians defeat Bluegrass Blazers 108-66

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Monday, January 20, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Bluegrass Blazers home school team 108-66 at home in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium.

The team knocked down a season-high 42 field goals, shooting 42 for 65 from the floor for 65%, and shot 48% from three point range. The leading scorer for the Indians was Connor Loy, who posted a 30 point double-double, adding a career high 15 assists.

Dawson Gilbert was the next highest scorer with 24, followed by Brayton Coomer who scored 21 and led the team with 10 rebounds, posting a double-double as well.

This 108 point outing marks the best an Indians team has done offensively since the historic game when Adair beat Caverna 119-103 in 2018. The lone blemish on the game was an early injury to senior forward Isaiah Cochran, who left the game in the 1st quarter and did not return. He and Senior Lane Grant (who did not play against the Blazers) are hopeful to return for the next game.

Adair County will be back in action at 7pmCT on Friday, January 24, 2025, when they host the Taylor County Cardinals (14-3).
