Racial healing being celebrated at CU this week

By Dr. Joseph Hopkins, President Campbellsville University

On this Monday, January 20, we are observing the annual national holiday in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. During his 39 years of life, Dr. King was committed to service as core to his life's mission. Other core values that Dr. King lived out included a strong commitment to integrity, an ethical framework on life, and the value of community. As he worked to advance civil rights and the beloved community, the life of Dr. King certainly provides a continued challenge to all of us at Campbellsville University that we seek to meet in 2025.

ACJE Bryant shares State of the County at Chamber meeting

Adair County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant was the guest speaker, and provided lunch catered by Melissa Murray, at the January meeting of the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce, held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in the Chamber basement.

"It is a tradition in the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce," said Executive Director Ellen Zornes, "to have our City and County officials kick off our meetings and hear how things are going as the new year begins."

Next month's meeting will feature Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots.

Bryant opened his remarks by saying, "I'm excited to speak to you today about the state of Adair county. But before I jump into that, I feel like I owe you a "state of my health" update. As some of you may know, I had the surgery on the back of my head back (here) to regulate spinal fluid circulation. As it turns out my issues with walking and falling wasn't a back problem at all, it was a spinal fluid issue. I had that surgery on New Year's Eve and was able to come home the next day. While everything is still pretty sore, I can definitely tell improvements each day. To be honest with you, I'm not sure if I could have stood here long enough due to the weakness in my legs before I had this procedure.

"I'm ready to look towards 2025, and I know many of you are as well! Sometimes I believe it's good to look back on where we've been as we look toward where we want to go. In 2024, Adair County was able to:
