Basketball: Indians defeat Knights on Fri, face GRC Sat

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Adair County Indians Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Marion County Knights 89-64 after shooting out to a 23-point halftime lead.

The team shot an impressive 60% from the floor and 48% from three point range. The leading scorer for the Indians was Connor Loy, with 22, followed by Isaiah Cochran with 15. Loy notched a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to lead the team in that statistic as well. Brayton Coomer added 6 rebounds.

This win improves the team to 11-4 on the season, and 3-0 in district play, which puts them halfway to back-to-back perfect seasons for in-season district play.

The team is back in action on the road at 4pmCT/5pmET today, Saturday, January 18, 2025, to take on George Rogers Clark in the Bill Smallwood Classic, hosted at Berea High School, 1 Pirate Pkwy, Berea, KY. The Indians' game will follow a game between North Hardin and Bell County.

George Rogers Clark (GRC) sits at 12-2 atop the 10th region's RPI rankings, and GRC was placed 16th in the latest poll by Kentucky Sports Radio.

This game will undoubtedly be a challenge for the Indians as they try to stop the GRC offensive attack led by Junior Malachi Ashford, who posted 18 in GRC's game against Bourbon County.

Basketball: Lady Indians win 71-42

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Adair County Lady Indians Basketball team defeated the Marion County Lady Knights 71-42 at home in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium, marking the 4th straight win for the team (and the 2nd 4-game winning streak this season).

The team was led in scoring by Freshman Reese Bardin with 26. Bardin shot an impressive 12 for 16 from the floor. Kinzlee Akin scored 14. The team as a whole shot 50% from the floor and 15% from beyond the three point arc. The win improves the team to 9-7 on the season, well above the 4-13 that the team was at this same point last season. This win also notches the Lady Indians as 7th in the region in the latest RPI rankings.

The Lady Indians were able to pick up this win with an explosive second half scoring run. Adair County led by just one point halfway through the 3rd quarter, but increased that to 10 by the end of the third, then up to 17 with 6:30 left in the game, ultimately building their way to a 31 point lead halfway through the 4th quarter.

The team hopes to keep this momentum as they travel back to Warren Central to face the Warren Central Lady Dragons (0-13) at 7:15pmCT on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
