Skilled Nursing Unit at TJSCH among the best in KY

From Stacey Biggs

Glasgow, KY - The Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU) at T.J. Samson Community Hospital has been recognized as a Best Nursing Home for short-term rehabilitation for 2025 by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual Best Nursing Homes ratings, now in their 15th year, assist prospective residents and their families in making informed decisions in consultation with their medical professionals about where to receive short-term nursing home care. Only 19% of U.S. skilled nursing facilities earned the "Best Nursing Home" designation this year.

Jamie Wilkerson, Chief Nursing Officer at T.J. Regional Health stated, "We are blessed to have the Skilled Nursing Unit at T.J. Samson lead the way in excellence. Their successes stem from how the dedicated staff prioritizes individualized treatment by ensuring plans of care are specific to goals for discharge. SNU stands as a beacon of compassionate care for the community and watching all the departments involved is impressive."

Kentucky Color: Honey Locust

2024-11-13 - Great Wooded South - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Billy Joe writes, "Yes there are several thornless varieties of Honey Locust for your landscaping needs but Common Honey Locust has thorns. The thorns have been used as sewing needles, weapons, fish hooks and many other uses. I have always been fascinated by the unique metallic red of some of the thorns. Honey Locust is a legume which builds the soil and produces seed pods that are edible, just like peas."

From Coach Deron Breeze
ACHS Head Boys' Basketball Coach

Dear Community/Staff/Students/Fans: We are excited to begin the 2024-2025 season. We have many exciting and talented players returning that should make this year exciting and successful for everyone involved. It is up to the team to put in the time, effort, and dedication in order to ensure that expectations are met.

This year we have another competitive schedule. The schedule will challenge our team and entertain our fans. We will continue our traditional rivalries with district and area schools Furthermore, we have added games against 3rd region power Owensboro High School and participate in the prestigious King of the Bluegrass tournament. Our goal is to defend our 5th region title and give our wonderful supporters another chance to go to Rupp Arena.

Finally, I want to encourage you to pack the gym and be loud this year. It takes all of us for this to be successful. We look to build upon last year and the twenty-nine wins. Come to the game, be loud, and be proud! Roll Tribe!

Kathy Flowers, 82, Cumberland County, KY

Kathy Flowers, age 82, longtime resident of Burkesville, passed away peacefully at her home on November 8th, 2024.

Kathy grew up in a Christian home and was encouraged to pursue a college education by her maternal grandfather, who was a lawyer. At an early age, she began teaching Sunday School at a small mission church and she realized then that she wanted to teach young children. Kathy's sister, Sara, and she shared many happy times together. She developed a close friendship with a group of girls that called themselves the "Crazy 8". This group continued their friendship throughout their lives. They had many sleepovers and these friendships enriched her life with fun and love for over 60 years.
