Kratom called the gas station heroin Cities and states are moving to ban sales of the herb Kratom, which is often sold in convenience stores or vape shops and is not yet regulated at the federal level, according to NBC News. Six states and numerous cities have banned Kratom entirely, and an additional 15 states prohibit the sale of Kratom to minors. According to the Washington Post, Kratom, often called "gas station heroin," was listed as the leading or partial cause of at least 4,100 deaths between 2020 and 2022, though nearly all deaths were also linked to other drug use, according to the NIH. Irene Voils Pyles, 94, Russell County, KY Irene Voils Pyles, of Russell Springs, passed from this earthly life on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Russell County Hospital. At the grand age of 94, she made it to her eternal, heavenly home. Born February 20, 1930, in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Lilburn and Lizzie Stearman Voils. After graduating high school, Irene became a teacher, eventually obtaining her master's degree and Rank I certification. In the very early years of her career, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse. Russell County was blessed to have her as an educator for over thirty years. Irene was a proud member of the Russell County Hospital Auxiliary Board for forty-two years and logged thousands of hours, volunteering her time doing what she enjoyed the most - helping others. Randy Cox, 60, Taylor County, KY Randy Cox, 60, of Campbellsville, son of the late Lewis Muriel Cox and Martha Sue Sidebottom Sallee was born July 19th, 1964 in Campbellsville and departed this life on Thursday, November 7th, 2024. He united in marriage to Justin Grant on October 17th, 2020 who survives. Randy enjoyed clogging and was a part of the Green River Cloggers. He loved music and loved life. He was a former employee of Amazon and Murakami. Randy professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. She was born on Sunday, November 7, 1937 in the Hegira Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky the daughter of Ronald Isaac & Dora Helen (Wray) Riddle. She was a Christian Lady, longtime member of The Mt. Pisgah United Baptist Church (Bow Schoolhouse), a retired machine operator for Mither & Scott Machine Co. in Indianapolis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Hall Riddle, sisters, Lucy Kathryn Capps & Elsie Grace Spears, niece, Rebecca Stockton. Carol Perkins: In the Pursuit of Happiness Previous Column: Friends and Family Weekend By Carol Perkins In the pursuit of happiness, as a right of all Americans as is stated in the Declaration of Independence, I am searching for a solution to an age-old problem that plagues many women and often stops them from being truly happy. As evident by the billions of dollars spent annually to rid or decrease the unhappiness the problem brings, the search is never over. In this pursuit of happiness, however, I have waited too late. Too much "water under the bridge" to swim back to the days when I should have been preparing. Now that I am losing the battle, I take up the fight. I'm in a fight to rid myself of the tire tracks down the sides of my face, squiggly lines across my forehead, crevices buried from my nose to my mouth, and those tiny, unforgiving lines around the mouth.
