Things are moving slowly but surely toward jobs in the future in the Green River Commerce Park. Carol Perkins: Remembering Phil Donahue Previous Column: Who Knew? By Carol Perkins I was a fan of Phil Donahue. I taped every show and watched them late at night after everyone had gone to bed. His guests were not only celebrities but also controversial guests, such as KKK members and a group of White Supremacists. I think even Phil was nervous. Back in the 1970s, when Guy had gone to work for a company in the Chicago area, we were invited to a dinner/meeting with company management. Guy knew some of the men, but I knew no one. When I learned we were going to be in the Chicago area, I wrote for tickets to the Donahue Show. I remember where I was when I opened the envelope, and four tickets fell out. You would have thought I'd hit the lottery. Four tickets? I was confident that two others would want to go with us. Keep in mind, I knew no one there. As I mingled with the ladies the night of the dinner, I found my ticket holders. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church. He worked for Fruit of Loom in the Bleach House for 22 years, Campbellsville Industries as a welder in the steel shop for 21 years, and he was a farmer. Grand Jury August indictments On Thursday, August 8, 2024, the Adair County Circuit Court Grand Jury met and handed down indictments against 9individuals from Columbia, Glasgow, and Russell Springs, KY, and South Richmond, NY. Charges included forgery, public intoxication, theft, sexual abuse, sodomy, trafficking, possession, careless driving, criminal mischief, DUI, and a registered sex offender not following public playground restrictions. NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
