Thursday night tally - Green River Band needs your vote

The Green River Band has moved up a hundred votes in the last 24 hours - thanks everyone who voted so far and if you haven't yet, please click now now and help them out! They are behind by one vote! All you have to do is click the link facebook.com and hit the Like or the Love button on the picture of the Green River Band!

The GRB goal is to perform at River Festivus. The top five bands with the most likes on Facebook will get to perform on Friday, Aug 16, 2024, in Burkesville, at the Battle of the Bands. The winner of the Battle will then get to open up for the Marshall Tucker Band on Saturday night, August 17, 2024.

Voting ends Friday night at midnight, so please help these guys with their goal. Band members, all from Adair County, are: Craig Dean - lead vocals; Jake Hill - lead guitar; Mark Harris - guitar/vocals; Chris Reeder - bass guitar/vocals; John 'JAC' Conover - drums.

Jeff Lawless, 61, Russell County, KY (1962-2024)

Jeff Lawless, of Russell Springs, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, in Lexington. He was 61 years of age.

Born on December 16, 1962, in Columbia, he was a son of Shirley Helm Lawless and the late Charles D. Lawless. Jeff was a lifelong truck driver for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, a good joke, and playing Army computer games. He loved his chewing tobacco and cooking breakfast on the weekends. Jeff was a member of Athens and Eubank Churches of Christ.

Marcella Jane Maupin, 76, Casey County, KY (1948-2024)

Marcella Jane Maupin, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 76.

Born on January 10, 1948, in Liberty, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Marie McBeath Bowmer.

Marcella was a homemaker and helped raise all her grandchildren. She loved planting flowers and collecting pottery and antiques. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Mabel Spears Carter, 94, Taylor County, KY (1930-2024)

Mabel Spears Carter of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Millard Eli Spears and Pearl Jane Riddle Spears, was born on Wednesday, March 12, 1930 in Cumberland County, Kentucky and departed this life on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 in Campbellsville. She was 94 years, four months, and four days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Hogard's Chapel Methodist Church and was also known to be "Wherever the Preacher went". She was also a retiree for Fruit of the Loom, Inc. She had attended Lindsey Wilson College. She was a substitute teacher in Warren County many years ago, and several years ago she also volunteered for several summers at Camp Loucon as a counselor.

Crazy Calf Lady donating part of meal to AC Fair

Orders are being taken for a special meal by the Crazy Calf Lady to help the Adair County Fair.

Brandy is donating $6 of every $15 meal she sells. Pre orders only are due by Monday for the Roast Beef Manhattan special on Wednesday. Lunch delivery is available in Columbia City limits as well as in-store pick up for lunch or supper til 6pmCT.

Ida (Genette) Burton, 78, Adair Co., KY native (1964-2024)

Ida "Genette" Burton, 78, of Mt. Auburn, Indiana, passed away from this life at 7:39 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at home surrounded with love. She was born September 3, 1945, in Sparksville, Kentucky, the daughter of the late James Molen and Ida Ezola Corbin.

Betty Jane Roy, 76, Russell County, KY (1947-2024)

Betty Jane Roy, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was 76 years of age.

Born August 12, 1947, in Creelsboro, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Geneva Keaton Flatt. Betty worked for many years as a manager in the hotel industry and she was raised in the Baptist faith.

Adair 6th Graders invited to 6th Grade 101

All incoming 6th graders in Adair County are invited to attend 6th Grade 101 on Friday, August 2, 2024. We hope to ease some of the 1st day jitters by allowing our students to get to know our 6th grade teachers, talk about schedules, ask questions, and become familiar with our building and procedures!
  • Boys' Camp will be held from 8amCT to 11amCT
  • Girls' Camp will be held from NoonCT to 3pmCT

U.S. Drought Monitor conditions worsened for Columbia

Conditions for 42728, Columbia, Kentucky worsened from No Drought to Abnormally Dry (D0), according to this week's U.S. Drought Monitor.

The Climate Prediction Center's July Drought Outlook, released on June 30, 2024, predicted that drought conditions would not develop in July. View more Columbia drought conditions at www.drought.gov.

Adair County Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024

The Adair County Letterwinners Club is excited to announce the class of 2024 inductees into the Adair County Athletics Hall of Fame.

The second annual Adair County Athletics Hall of Fame weekend will begin with a Hall of Fame Celebration Tail Gate at the Adair County Football game on Friday evening, September 13, 2024. The Induction Ceremony Brunch will be held at 10amCT on Saturday, September 14, 2024, in John Burr Memorial Gymnasium.

This year's class features seven legendary individuals and one remarkable team of Adair County athletics: Keenan "Redbone" Bridgewater (1981), Tonya Feese (1989), Mark Fudge (1979), Harry Loy (1963), Kim Rodgers (1987), Matt Rogers (1999), Mike White (1960), and the 1991-92 Lady Indians Basketball Team.

Kindergarten Camp at ACPC

Kindergarten Camp will be held at Adair County Primary Center on July 24 and July 25, 2024. Students can be dropped off at 9amCT and picked up at NoonCT. Sign-in and out will be at the front door. Students will get a chance to meet the teachers and learn more about school!
