16th Annual Fall Heritage Festival is Sept 7 The 16th Annual Fall Heritage Festival at Homeplace on Green River will be held from 8amCT to 3pmCT on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Homeplace on Green River, 5807 Columbia Road, Campbellsville KY. Admission to the festival is just $5.00 per person, or vehicles with four or more, just $20. Admission is free to HGR Household Level Members. Lyn Stanton, Program Director at Homeplace on Green River, says, "Bring the whole family to Homeplace on Green River to enjoy tons of great activities at the Fall Heritage Festival. We'll have dozens of craft vendors, live music all day, great food, a petting farm, pony rides, a 4H kids activity center, birds of prey exhibit, bounce houses, historical demonstrations, a 50-50 cash raffle, hay rides, kiddie barrel train rides and more! Carol Perkins: A Humbled Heart Previous Column: I took my phone for a ride By Carol Perkins If you read my article about the little girl in Somalia who received a shoebox, you will remember her seventeen-year-old sister, Marie. She affectionately calls me "Grandma" after I said I am old enough to be hers. The last two messages were happy and sad ones. The happy message was a video showing her end-of-year school program. "I'm the one without a covering on my head," she said. When I asked about that, she replied, "I'm the only Christian. The other girls are Muslims." I wondered if her being a Christian had anything to do with the mission work of Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child. She said she would not be able to reach me soon because she was returning to her tiny village where there was no internet. The following email came on Wednesday. Wilford Thomas Davenport, 66, Green County, KY Wilford Thomas Davenport of Green County was born in Taylor County KY. on September 18, 1957, to the late Ollen T. and Roxie Bloyd Davenport. He departed this life on Monday July 8, 2024, at his home in Green County having attained the age of sixty-six years, nine months and twenty days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Oak Grove Separate Baptist Church of the Nolynn Association, but currently attended Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Green County High School. He was a farmer and formerly employed at Greensburg Manufacturing for 15 years. Later, he obtained an associate’s degree in behavioral science and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Western Kentucky University where he was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and listed among the Who’s Who as a Non-Traditional Student. He was a Master Mason of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge Chapter 54 F & AM.
