Phyllis Tucker, 72, Greensburg, KY (1951-2024) Phyllis Elaine Wright Tucker of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Henry Lee Wright and Vernice Posey Wright, was born on Wednesday, August 15, 1951, in Green County and departed this life on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 72 years, 10 months, and 7 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Ladies Chapel United Methodist Church, she was also a former member of the Maple Hill Church as well as a former Sunday School teacher. She was retired from Fruit of Loom where she worked 29 years, worked for Amazon for 10 years, as well as having her own business making soap. She was also a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years. EDA Board of Directors welcome new members By Dennis Crump, Editor, Adair Progress The Adair County's Economic Development Authority (EDA) Chairman Larry Walker opened their June meeting discussion by recognizing the two new members, Rob Wilkerson and Michelle Powell. Powell was immediately selected for the position of treasurer. EDA Consultant Heather Spoon was especially commended for her contributions toward bringing the new Martin's Peterbilt expansion into Adair County. Vice Chairman Mark Dykes was also recognized for his many years of honorable service with the board. Orvis Reese, 80, Russell County, KY (1943-2024) Orvis G. Reese, of Russell Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 80 years of age. He was a proud US Army veteran of the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed his time that he was stationed in Germany and always wanted to return there for a visit. He was a retired grocery store manager. Orvis was of the Christian faith and had been baptized. He enjoyed reading his Bible and had read it through many times. He loved trading knives and coins and going to flea markets. Courthouse Clock will chime and keep time again The clock tower on the historic Adair county courthouse is in full restoration phase, members learned at the recent Adair Heritage Association meeting. The City Of Columbia is funding the work of bringing the clock back into working order. The clock will have modern mechanical parts instead of the age old parts which could not be rebuilt. It will chime again and keep time again once the work on it is completed. Gilbert Burton, Adair County, KY (1925-2024) Gilbert Ray Burton, 98, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Friday, June 21, 2024 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was born September 15, 1925, in Adair County to Lucian and Belle Redmon Burton. He was the oldest and longest member, along with his wife Sophia, of Purdy Separate Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and a retired dairy farmer. Paint the Town coming up July 25th The City of Columbia will be having their sixth annual “Paint The Town,” in which businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals are assigned a portion of the sidewalk to do sidewalk art. The date this year is Thursday, July 25. The City is planning for all to do the same day and if feasible from 4 until 8pmCT that evening. Artists will be assigned a portion of sidewalk for the event.
