Flags ordered to half-staff Saturday, April 6

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, April 6, in honor of a Somerset-Pulaski County EMT who died in the line of duty.

Chastian Tyler McWhorter, age 26, of Albany, Kentucky, was killed Monday in Garrard County when the ambulance he was driving was struck by a semi.

This is a keepsake sunset photo from the week before the big weather change we're experiencing. The weather report calls for widespread frost, mainly before 8amCT when the Farmers Market begins. Otherwise, Saturday promises to be sunny, with a high near 59. North wind around 6 mph.

Hazel Willis Smith, 73, Burkesville, KY (1950-2024)

Hazel Willis Smith, age 73 of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at T J Health Columbia. Hazel was born on April 22, 1950 in Cumberland County, KY to the late Willie Odell Willis and Eara Mae Riddle Willis.

She was a member of Burkesville Church of Christ, was a former employee of John Ed Smith Realty & Auction and was a longtime caregiver. She was the founder of "WE CARE" and was actively involved in many organizations in Cumberland County including the Steel Horse Stampede Motorcycle Ride every year.

Farmers Market on the Square opens Saturday, April 6

Farmers Market on the Square begins the 2024 season Saturday morning, April 6th. They offer fresh local produce and handmade products.

The market is open each Saturday from 8-1 CT at the corner of Campbellsville Street and Merchant Street in Columbia across from City Hall.

Free Narcan available in Barren, Hart, Metcalfe Counties

Glasgow, KY - The Barren, Hart, And Metcalfe Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Coalition and T.J. Regional Health have been awarded funds to purchase 960 doses of life-saving intranasal Narcan and 15 Opioid Rescue Kits through the 2024 ASAP and Harm Reduction Grants.

These Opioid Rescue Kits and intranasal Narcan doses are available free of charge to businesses, community organizations, and individuals in Barren, Hart, and Metcalfe Counties. Training opportunities on proper use of Narcan are available to the public upon request.

Plan ahead for safe total solar eclipse Monday

Frankfort, KY - With the moon's shadow less than a week away from dazzling spectators across Kentucky and a dozen other states, residents and businesses in prime viewing destinations are encouraged to prepare, along with the influx of travelers planning to take in the sight.

Tommy Joe Bradley, 90, Taylor County, KY family

Tommy Joe Bradley, son of the late Harry A. Bradley and Malinda Adline Smith Bradley, was born on Tuesday, January 2, 1934 and departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was 90 years and 3 months of age.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Elk Horn Baptist Church. In his free time, he loved fishing and gardening. He served our country honorably, having served in the United States Navy.

Bloomington Chapel Annual Fish Fry is April 27

Bloomington Chapel Church will hold their Annual Fish Fry Fundraiser starting at 10:30amCT on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

The menu includes fish dinners, tenderloin dinners, hot dogs, chips, desserts, and drinks, available for dine in, call in and carry out. There will be lots of outdoor fun for kids, including pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting, and cotton candy. The auction will begin at 1pmCT.
