US Census of Agriculture: Growth for KY agricultural products From Madison Pergrem Frankfort, KY - With 69,425 farms dotting Kentucky's landscape and more than 12.4 million of the state's 25 million acres dedicated to some form of farming, it's evident Kentucky's roots are still very much agricultural. These numbers were just some of the statistics that came out of the recently released 2022 Census of Agriculture. "It's no surprise agriculture is still very much a part of what makes Kentucky so special," Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell said. "The numbers released by the Census solidifies Kentucky's agricultural hold. We know agriculture is a large part of our history, but these numbers show it is also moving our future forward." The top 5 counties in Kentucky for the number of farms were: Barren County (1,621); Pulaski County (1,600); Warren County (1,530); Shelby County (1,350); and Grayson County (1,283). National cellular outage affecting local customers on Thursday From Mike Keltner, Director Adair Co. Emergency Management As most have already learned there is a cellular outage nationwide. In our area, AT&T and sub-carriers that use AT&T towers seem to be impacted. AT&T is encouraging users to activate WiFi calling if you have WiFi available. This will allow calls to be placed on your device. On the iPhone this is found under "Settings / Cellular / Sim Options or WiFi calling". Consult your phone manual for this option on other devices. He was the retired owner and operator of the skating rink in the Key Village in Russell Springs, KY. He was born in April 30, 1957, a son of the late Ruby (Shumate) and Carl Short. Russell County student threatened on social media Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford released a statement Monday that a parent had made School Safety Officer Jackie Grider aware of a threatening message his daughter had received via snapchat. Specifically, one message read "I'm shooting up yo school Cya Tuesday" and another one read "Watch your back Tuesday" while other messages were demeaning and hurtful. The student will not be allowed to attend school while the district works to determine what the next disciplinary steps will be, in addition to the legal charges. Charles Watkins Shields, Jr, 83, Taylor County, KY Charles Watkins Shields, Jr. of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late Charles W. Shields, Sr. and Nancy Fry, was born on August 8, 1940. He departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at his residence having attained the age of 83 years, six months and ten days. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Knifley Christian Church. He retired from General Telephone and served his country honorably in the United States Navy.
