Wear blue for Izzie Mae on February 15th

For my oldest, Izzie Mae, February is a special month. It's her birth month and the 15th is always International Angelman Day, raising awareness around Angelman Syndrome, a condition she lives with.

We'd love to see your family and/or workplace wear blue on February 15th to honor the day!

I came across this quote a couple years ago and it's never left me: "Just because someone is nonverbal doesn't mean they have nothing to say."

Four-year-old Amelia Nickel enjoyed the Tea Party at the Trabue Russell House Saturday with her mother, Paige. She especially liked the old fashioned valentine card and the hearts on each table.

Relay for Life Soup and Chili cook off is Saturday

The Metcalfe Co. Relay for Life Committee is hosting a Soup and Chili cook off Saturday, February 17, 2024. Tickets to the event are $5 each. This lets you sample all of the celebrities cooking and vote for your favorite.

The winning celebrity will receive a trophy and of course bragging rights. As always, we will have our cake auction following the tasting.

Gwendolyn Cox, 58, Taylor County, KY (1966-2024)

Gwendolyn "Nunu" Cox, 58, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, daughter of William Hitch and the late Gwenda Morris Hitch was born February 4th, 1966 and departed this life on February 8th, 2024.

She enjoyed walking with friends. She loved going to Disney with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to preachers on TV. Nunu professed faith in Christ and was of the Pentecostal faith.

LCDHD accepting nominations for Public Health Hero Award

Lake Cumberland District Health Department

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department is accepting nominations for the 2024 Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh Public Health Hero Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize an outstanding public health advocate in the Lake Cumberland area.

Candidates should display exemplary leadership and diligence in promoting public health. They will have made remarkable contributions and support in fostering public health programs. Their work or actions will have positively impacted the community's health. Nominees should live and/or work in the Lake Cumberland District.

"There are many individuals who promote health and wellness across the Lake Cumberland District," said LCDHD Director Amy Tomlinson. "This award is intended to recognize those sometimes overlooked or unsung providers, board members, officials, and citizens who serve tirelessly and without applause. The Lake Cumberland area is better through their concern for their neighbors."

The award is presented the first week of April each year during National Public Health Week. To nominate a candidate, go to www.lcdhd.org/award. Nominations will be accepted through February 29, 2024.

KSP seeks public assistance in Washington Co cold case

Springfield, KY - The Kentucky State Police Post 15 is requesting assistance in solving the murder of Yul Rayford, age 51 of Bardstown. Mr. Rayford was found shot in his vehicle in Springfield, KY on June 14, 2016.

On the morning of June 14, 2016, a landowner located a vehicle parked on his property on Bardstown Road while out tending to his farm. As the landowner approached the parked vehicle, he noticed the engine was running and a man, later identified as Yul Rayford, slumped over in the driver's seat. Mr. Rayford had a single gunshot wound to the head and was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Kentucky State Police regularly re-examines cold cases for possible new leads. Anyone with information related to this investigation is urged to contact Detective Dexter Colvin at 270-384-4796 or 1-800-222-5555.

Patsy Kay Paxton, 80, Green County, KY (1943-2024)

Patricia "Patsy Kay" Patterson Paxton, age 80 of Greensburg, Kentucky, departed this life peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

She was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, a retired Human Resource Manager of the Kentucky Department of Transportation District 4 in Elizabethtown, as well as City Clerk of Greensburg. She enjoyed being active in the community serving on the Green County Arts Council, Green County Junior Miss, United Women of Faith, the inaugural Green County Cow Days Committee and was the Parade Co-Grand Marshal in 2023. Additionally, she loved to paint and play the piano, having started playing the piano in church when she was 14 years old.
