Veteran Henry Wade to be honored Saturday after 79 years

After 79 years, the body of Veteran Private First Class Henry Wade will be brought home to Russell County Saturday, November 18, 2023.

A procession route is planned to be Highway 127 south to Jamestown, around the Doughboy at the public square, north Highway 127 to KY 80 to Wilson Funeral Home for honors by Rolling Thunder.

Daniel Wilson writes, "The public is invited to be part of the service and encouraged to safely line up along the procession route, salute, remove hats and caps, hold flags and pay honor to this this Veteran who gave his life for our country and returning home after 79 years." Times are to be announced by Wilson Funeral Home.

Douglas Hoots speaks at Columbia Adair Chamber meeting

Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots proudly introduced her brother Doug, Columbia native and law partner with Miller, Griffin and Marks, as the guest speaker for the November Chamber of Commerce meeting in Columbia.

He gave a brief overview of the state and federal courts, including, "Before the writing of the U.S. Constitution and the establishment of the permanent national judiciary under Article III, the states had courts. Each of the thirteen colonies also had its own courts, based on the British common law model.

"The judiciary today continues as a dual court system, with courts at both the national and state levels.

Cynthia Litteral, 60, Columbia, KY (1963-2023)

Cynthia Jean Moore Litteral of Columbia passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at her residence. She was 60 years old.

Mrs. Litteral chose cremation, and no services are scheduled at this time.

As of 11:25amCT on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the Boil Water Advisory for customers on 5237-8520 Greensburg Road, all side roads in between, Dick Grant Road, Becam Rogers Road, Brockman Keltner Road, Bull Run and all side roads, Knifley Road and all side roads, 4172-7299 Campbellsville Road and all side roads, Dulworth Road, Huntington Way and all side roads, Griffin Spring Road, 811-924 Coburg Road, and Pellham Branch Road and all side roads, has been lifted by the Division of Water.

This means your water is safe for human consumption. You no longer have to boil your water.

OCC 2023: Lindsey Wilson Athletics donates 478 boxes

This year, Lindsey Wilson gathered 478 shoeboxes comprised of toys, school supplies, and personal hygiene items for children in developing countries during the Christmas season.

"Our student-athletes and coaches are delighted year after year in our department's outreach programs," expressed Lindsey Wilson Athletic Director Willis Pooler. "We take great pride in supporting Adair Country and the Columbia community, but we also embrace Operation Christmas Child and strive beyond to make an impact on a global scale."

Basketball: LWC rolls past Welch on Tuesday

The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Welch 96-47 Tuesday in their home opener at Biggers Sports Center. The women's team returns to action at 5pmCT on Friday when they travel to Pippa Passes, Kentucky to take on Alice Lloyd.

A fast start coupled with strong shooting from all around led the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team to a similar result, topping Welch 95-68. The victory snaps a four-game losing streak for the men, and earns them their second win of the season. The men's basketball team travels to Crestview Hills, Kentucky this weekend for the Thomas More Classic.

Charity Baptist Church Thanksgiving Service

Charity Baptist Church will be having a Thanksgiving Service at 10:30amCT on Sunday, November 19, 2023. The Sullivans from Scottsville will be singing, and a meal will follow. There will be no Sunday School.
