The Area Development Districts' contribution to the economic development of the Commonwealth this last half century is immeasurable."Tony Wilder of Danville, KY, former Judge executive of Boyle County, was the guest speaker at the Lake Cumberland Area Development District (LCADD) annual dinner recently. His message, on this 54th anniversary of the LCADD, focused on working together and how it pays dividends. "This brilliant concept of regionalization, bringing people together, is a unique Kentucky story that has implications nationwide," he said. Margie Breeding Coomer, 98, Columbia, KY (1924-2023) Margie Kathleen Rice Breeding Coomer of Columbia passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Summit manor Nursing Home with her family by her side. She was 98 years old. Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Trinity Church, 2418 Campbellsville Rd., Columbia, KY, with Rev. Steve Pescosolido and Elijah Coffey officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, and will continue on Thursday from 10amCT until time for the service at Trinity Church. Harper sisters visit the Circle R display at TRH Sisters Margaret Harper and Joanna Harper Conover paid a visit to the Trabue Russell House for the Annual Soup and Sandwich Luncheon on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. While they were there, they got to view the display about the Circle R Restaurant that is now part of the TRH collection, thanks to donations from the Harper family collection. The display includes photos of their father, J.D. Harper, who ran the Circle R from 1957 until his retirement in 1995, plus some past employees at the restaurant, including Sylvia Wilson, Peggy and Vonda Brockman, Dean Cowan, and DeGary Bailey, and Mrs. Dowell and Mrs. Johnson hard at work in the kitchen. There is also a framed copy of an article that Byron Crawford wrote about his visits to the restaurant over the course of 30 years, for the January 11, 1995, issue of the Courier Journal, titled, "A wisp of a waitress, an eternal corsage and food for the soul." The display provides a unique look back at a Columbia institution, still missed by many. As is written on the scrapbook, "The personalities that made [the restaurant] such a memorable place to spend some time were impossible to replace. It is now just a happy memory." Football: LWC rides big first half to win over Cumberlands At Parnell Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the Lindsey Wilson football team remained perfect in conference play and upended the visiting Patriots 48-14 behind nearly 500 total yards of offense. Quarterback Ethan Cash completed 17 of his 29 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown. It is the junior's third output of 200 or more yards through the air this season and second second-highest. Quantae Hicks and Michael Burdick served as Cash's primary targets on the afternoon as they each hauled in over 100 yards receiving.
