Massie and Montgomery sign $10 bill in local collection By JIM The $10 First National Bank of Columbia bank note carries the signatures of two Adair Countians, those of Bruce Montgomery (as mentioned under the photo) and of Braxton Massie (1854-1943), a native of Cane Valley who moved to Columbia in 1903, the year the bank opened. Bruce Montgomery (1882-1973) began employment at First National in 1905. He was promoted to assistant cashier the following year and to cashier and vice president in 1907, capacities in which he served until being elected the bank's fourth president in 1941. He held that position until his passing in the spring of 1973, a few months over 70 years after he started working there. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery. Governor Beshear to be in Columbia October 3 From Tiffany Collins Columbia Mayor Pamela Hoots' office has announced that Governor Andy Beshear is scheduled to be in our town at 2:45pmCT next Tuesday, October 3, 2023. The Governor will be making an announcement for the City of Columbia along with some other funding projects. The event will be held at 3211 Adair Veterans Memorial Highway. "We encourage everyone to welcome Governor Beshear to Columbia. We appreciate the support of projects to benefit our community," said Mayor Hoots. ACSO: Arrest in construction site theft From Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office The Adair County Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation on September 24, 2023, after receiving a call reporting a theft. The victim stated that someone had come onto his property on Campbellsville Road where he was having a structure built. Lumber and other building materials were taken from the site. Chief Deputy Brandon Hitch was able to develop a suspect and confirm a positive identification. Golf: LWC teams capture Blue Raider Fall Classic titles The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team captured the Blue Raider Fall Classic title on Monday at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson, and the Lindsey Wilson men's golf B team captured the Blue Raider fall Classic Title on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders women shot a 61-over par 925 (308-308-309) on the par-72 5,864 yard course. Lindsey Wilson edged out runner-up Northwestern Ohio by four shots. The Blue Raiders finished the three rounds posting the best score on par 5s going 10 over. Lindsey Wilson also carded the most eagles with two. On Tuesday, the Blue Raiders B team posted a 22-under par 830 (274-274-282) to edge out the Lindsey Wilson A team by four shots. Charlie Jones posted best finish for the B team finishing fifth with a 7-under par 206 (68-69-69). Jamie Gibb finished sixth with a 207 (71-70-66) while Frederik Strand (68-69-72) and Toby White (67-68-75) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
