Popplewell Three alumni and one devoted benefactor will be honored during Lindsey Wilson College's 92nd homecoming celebration on September 26-30, 2023. The awards luncheon will be held at 11amCT on Saturday, September 30, 2023, in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. The event-packed weekend, dubbed "Aim for the Stars," will also feature several reunions and events, including a special reunion celebrating 16 years of the Bonner Scholars program; the Inaugural Dr. Scott Dillery Fall Frenzy Swimming Invitational and naming ceremony; an LWC Singers reunion and performance; the 2nd Annual Brady Conrad Button Memorial Golf Scramble; and a homecoming alumni tailgate. Darnel, Assistant Principal Adair County High School Adair County High School would like to recognize Mr. Devin Barrett and Ms. Katie Kean for being named "Freshmen Students of the Week" for September 18, 2023. Devin and Katie, along with several other freshmen students, were nominated by Freshmen ARROW Academy teachers for this honor. Devin and Katie were chosen, after a vote, for their kindness, character, and ability to excel in the school and classroom. Congratulations to both students! Each week, Adair County High School ARROW Academy Teachers will nominate and select one male and one female student from the freshmen student body to receive this recognition. The students will be awarded a certificate for their achievement, one free drink of their choice from Indian Grounds Coffee, and their photo will run all week on the video announcement boards within the school. Velma Arthur, 96, Russell County, KY (1926-2023) Velma "Veb" Arthur, of Russell Springs, KY passed from this life on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Russell County Hospital. She was 96 years of age. She was a special little lady who was easy-going with everyone. Ms. Veb loved keeping in touch with her family, having company and going to visit with family and friends. She was a perfect hostess, always asking if she could make coffee or fix something to eat. When you left her home, you were sure to see her at her door and calling out "You come back!". Ms. Veb loved going shopping and getting out to push mow her yard. Blue Raider Classic underway at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team sits in second following the first day of the Blue Raider Fall Classic on Monday at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson. Lindsey Wilson has three men's teams competing at the tournament. The mens' B team sits atop the leaderboard with a 20-under par 548 (274-274) on the par-71 6,598 yard course. Toby White sits in third with a 135 (67-68) and is just one shot behind the leaders. Frederik Strand (68-69) and Charlie Jones (68-69) are tied for fifth with a 137. Rio Saigal is ninth with a 140 (72-68) while Jamie Gibb is tied for 10th with a 141 (71-70). The Blue Raiders women shot a 40-over par 616 (308-308) on the par-72 5,864 yard course. Lindsey Wilson heads into the final day four shots behind Northwestern Ohio. Through two rounds, the Blue Raiders lead the field in par 5 scoring going 6-over.
