Danny Lynn Orman, 69, Knifley, KY (1954-2023) Danny Lynn Orman, 69, of Knifley, Kentucky, son of the late James Munroe Orman and Lillie E. Crutchfield Orman was born March 19th, 1954, in Bells, Tennessee, and departed this life on Friday, September 15th, 2023 in Knifley. Danny was a proud Army veteran and a retired welder. He enjoyed being surrounded by family, his baby girls, and baby boys, good food, and lots of laughter. He was known to many as Danny Clause. The highlight of his year was dressing up as Santa for any and everyone, to the extent of shopping in Walmart in full attire. He'd walk the isles handing out mini candy canes, and we're not sure who's faces lit up more, the kid's, or his. He will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him, and his sweet cat Tom. Remembering Ed By JIM Five years ago today -- September 24, 2018 -- my friend Ed Waggener, ever and always young at heart, quietly "slipped the surly bonds of earth" to set forth on the Greatest Adventure. We had last met up about a year earlier when I breezed into Columbia for a few hours on Saturday of Frontier Days. That splendid autumn morn, we breakfasted at Moore's and talked non-stop, then made a lap or two around the square, pausing now and anon for him to chat with friends, acquaintances, and out-of-town folks alike, and to snap a few photos for CM. Ed obviously was in his element, enjoying the crowd, enjoying the sights and sounds, taking in the buzz, the fun, the faces, with his reporter's eyes and ears and heart. At some point along the way, we paused for a few moments to chat about a few of the buildings and long-ago businesses near the Well Walk. Missing the 'man-of-a-million-words' By Mike Watson 24 September 2023 Rarely a day passes when I don't think of or speak of our mutual friend, mentor and confidant. Generally there is no need to speak his surname, for those who knew him and our mutual interest of local history, family intrigues, and general concern for properly written obituaries, know his name. Historical and genealogical writing began for me with the Adair County News and the Daily Statesman in the fall of 1983. He encouraged me to send some local history--as he was like to do: encourage submissions of copy and/or ideas for great local-color photographs. He was a newspaperman like no other in that he could ferret out the story, and could teach almost anyone to frame and produce a decent photograph. Remembering Ed: Civil Discourse By Shannon Sexton September 24th will mark the 5th anniversary of my good friend Ed's passing. I still find myself reaching for the phone to call him when breaking news or something controversial is afoot in the community. Ed and I happened upon each other during Mike Stephen's tenure as CJE. Mike introduced me to Ed and we became fast friends. Ed and I didn't always see things the same way but we were sure to have a civil discussion about the matter at hand. Conversation was always easy with Ed, even in disagreement. He was the best listener and would challenge me to see all aspects of a situation before locking down my opinion on a subject. Sponsors needed for Adair Co. Little League Basketball By Daniel Hedges If anyone is interested in sponsoring a Little League Basketball team, please contact Daniel Hedges (Director) at 270-282-3175 or espn8122@gmail.com. The cost to sponsor a team is $300. You will get advertising by having your business name on the uniform/shirt that the team wears. The sponsorship fee covers the cost of uniforms. Another option for anyone is to make a donation sponsorship of $25 dollar increments to cover operating costs for the program. I am trying to get this program in great shape to help the future of basketball in the county. It takes teaching and instruction from an early age. Please contact me, and I will take payments-cash or check. Thank you. 2023-09-24 10:20:56 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Sports
