Flags to half-staff in honor of Brereton Jones From Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear announced the death of former Kentucky Gov. Brereton Jones on Monday. The 58th Governor of the commonwealth, Jones served from 1991 to 1995. Prior to becoming Governor, he served as Lieutenant Governor from 1987 to 1991. He was 84 years old. "I was sad to learn that former Governor and Lieutenant Governor Brereton Jones has passed away," said Gov. Beshear. "Gov. Jones was a dedicated leader and a distinguished thoroughbred owner who worked to strengthen Kentucky for our families. Please join Britainy and me in praying for Libby and his family." Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff in Jones' honor until sunset on the day of interment. The former Governor will lie in state in the rotunda of the Kentucky State Capitol. Additional arrangements will be forthcoming. Individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the commonwealth are encouraged to join in this tribute. Janie Marr McCubbins, 64, Green County, KY (1959-2023) Frances Jane "Janie" Marr McCubbins of the Summersville community of Green County, daughter of the late James and Sally Erma Underwood Marr, was born on April 9, 1959 in Larue County, Kentucky. She departed this life on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at her home having attained the age of 64 years, five months and eight days. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith. Janie was a loving wife, mama and nana - not to just her own grandchildren, but to the numerous children she helped take care of over the years as well.
