Maedell Love Walker, 94, Metcalfe County, KY (1929-2023)

Mallie Maedell (Love) Walker, age 94, of Edmonton, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Metcalfe County Health Care Center. She was born on Thursday, January 10, 1929 the daughter of Fred and Myrtle (Grider) Love.

Mrs. Walker was a Christian, member of the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ, and was a long time teller at Edmonton State Bank.

Dr. Hilda Legg to give Heritage Day chapel address

Dr. Hilda Legg, a Campbellsville College alum and native of Adair County who has served under four U.S. Presidents, will be speaking at Campbellsville University's Heritage Day chapel at 10amET/9amCT, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023 in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

Legg has served under Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Donald Trump. She has over 40 years of experience in rural economic development, including as administrator of the Rural Utilities Service and as alternate federal co-chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Dr. Tracy Courtney joins TJRH Neurology team

T.J. Regional Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Tracy Courtney has joined the T.J. Regional Health Neurology team. He will treat patients in the T.J. Primary Care Clinic locations in both Columbia and Russell Springs.

Dr. Courtney obtained his Bachelor of Science at Vanderbilt University, majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Spanish. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in neurology at the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center in the Department of Neurology.

KY Small Business Tax Credit for 2023 tax returns

Frankfort, KY - On Sept. 13, 2023, Gov. Andy Beshear urged the owners of Kentucky's small businesses, which help drive the state's job growth and innovation, to apply for a tax credit of up to $25,000.

To ensure the best chance of approval in time for this year's tax filings and receive the Kentucky Small Business Tax Credit, qualifying small businesses should apply now. Tax credits are available to eligible companies that added at least one net new full-time employee and invested $5,000 or more in qualifying equipment or technology within the past 24 months. Charlie Caldwell, 59, Taylor County, KY (1964-2023)

Charlie Caldwell, 59, of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late "Blue Bo" Caldwell and Elizabeth Odele Wathen Caldwell was born August 23rd, 1964, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, and departed this life on Monday, September 11th, 2023 in Campbellsville, Ky.

Charlie was united in marriage to Ms. Marie Adele Spalding on March 18th, 1992. She survives. He loved fishing, turtling, and spending time outdoors.

ACSO: Adair man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

On Monday, September 11, 2023, at around 10:08pmCT, Adair County Sheriff's Deputy Derek Padgett attempted a traffic stop on KY 55 South. The vehicle was a 2000 Buick passenger car.

The driver fled, refusing to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit came to a safe end on Wain Street in the city limits of Columbia.

Golf: LWC opens season with victory at Phoenix Invitational

The Lindsey Wilson men's golf team opened its 2023-24 season with a victory at the Phoenix Invitational on Tuesday at Pine Creek Golf Course in Mt. Juliet, TN.

The Blue Raiders men finished with a 50-under par 814 (273-271-270) to take home the team title. Lindsey Wilson's 50 under is the second-best three round score in program history.Lindsey Wilson finished the tournament shooting 23-under on par 4s and carded the most birdies of the tournament with 84.

The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team finished sixth at the Phoenix Invitational. The Blue Raiders women finished the three-round two-day tournament with a 40-over par 904 (307-310-316). Megan Mann posted the best Lindsey Wilson finish carding a six-over par 222 (73-76-73) on the 5,937 yard par 72 course. Mann tallied 10 birdies which ranked four the fifth-most in the tournament.

KY General Fund and Road Fund receipts for August 2023

Frankfort, KY - The Office of State Budget Director reported on Monday that General Fund receipts increased 7.7 percent in August compared to last year. Total collections equaled $1,076.3 million, $77.1 million higher than August 2022. Through the first two months of Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), General Fund receipts have increased 7.4 percent.

The official revenue estimate for FY24 calls for General Fund revenues to fall 0.2 percent compared to FY23 actual receipts. Based on Augusts' results, receipts can decline 1.4 percent for the remainder of the fiscal year and still meet the official estimate. The Consensus Forecasting Group will meet later this month to provide preliminary estimates for the upcoming 2024-2026 biennial budget.

ACSO: Adair woman arrested on burglary charges

On September 9, 2023, Sheriff K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten executed an arrest warrant for an Adair County woman. The warrant was obtained upon the conclusion of an investigation conducted by Deputy Staten into a residential break-in that occurred in the Portland community of Adair County.

Burkesville artists work to be on display

Burkesville artists Patricia Ritter and Charlotte Cash will have their work displayed for westbound travelers to see.

FRANKFORT -- The Raising Hope Kentucky initiative, funded by appropriations from the Kentucky General Assembly to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, will present a farmer appreciation banner at 11:30amCT Wednesday, Sept. 13 on the side of a historic country general store near Burkesville, Ky.

The banner will be visible to westbound travelers on Glasgow Road (Highway 90) between Burkesville and Marrowbone. The artist-created banner was funded through Raising Hope's farmer appreciation grant program in 2022, with an award to Burkesville artists Patricia Ritter and Charlotte Cash.
