ACHS senior chosen for TCRECC Youth Tour The current issue of Kentucky Living has Adair County High School student Trey Stephens on the cover. In the story, they wrote, "local rising senior Trey Stephens joined 58 other electric co-op students from across the commonwealth for a weeklong, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C." The magazine is published by Taylor County RECC and they sponsor an annual Washington Youth Tour. Trey said, "The trip as a whole was an amazing experience, I loved every moment of it. My favorite part was going to the capital and meeting some members of Congress. The most surprising thing about the trip is how diverse of a crowd went on the trip. It was 65 kids from across the state, none of them being from Louisville or Lexington, so it was neat to see people from all over rural Kentucky." Hopkins emphasizes civil discourse in CU chapel By Gerard Flanagan, news writer and photographer, Office of University Communications Dr. Joseph Hopkins and his family had just finished a daytime trip to Venice, Italy when a rainstorm suddenly swept through as they waited for a water taxi. In the chaos of people ducking for cover, Hopkins managed to find a private boat to transport him, his family and dozens of other tourists, only to receive a much higher-than-expected price for the trip from the boat's owner. 100 Years Ago: Goings-on in early September 1923 By JIM The opening days of September 1923 found Mr. Horace T. Walker roofing the First National Bank of Columbia as part of extensive changes to the twenty year old building. At the same time, Mr. Walker, a man of many talents, had "opened his picture show at Tutt Hall" for the fall and winter season. Tutt Hall, a large, fairly new building, stood facing a now long-since closed section of Jefferson Alley, roughly behind the First Baptist Church building. N.B, Kelsay wanted to sell "a good Range Stove," used only two years, "cheap if taken at once." Gum Grove School had a pie supper coming up for the benefit of the school and its library, and H.C. Feece offered a reward for the pair of bifocal rimless spectacles he'd lost in Columbia. V---- Burton faced charges of striking Luther Chapman on the hand with a mustard jar at the recently closed fair. Burton was "held in the sum of $300 to await action of the grand jury."
