Thank you to Walmart staff for securing wallet Al Owens would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the persons at Walmart who found his wallet and had it returned to him. He said it contained every single thing he had when he lost it, including the cash. He was shopping to get a roast for special dinner for son, Wichita, who is 27 today, August 23, 2023. It was about 9:45pm when he was shopping and he said he must have dropped the wallet. He hoped to thank the individual but Walmart was unable to give that information, so he's just thanking the whole staff on the evening shift. Rebecca Medaris, 54, Russell County, KY (1968-2023) Rebecca Medaris, of Jamestown, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, with her family at her side. She was 54 years of age. Rebecca, known as "Becky", was born October 2, 1968, in Jeffersonville, daughter of Wayne Allen and Rosan Schemensky Medaris. She worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice as a Youth Worker for many years. Becky was a member of The Church at the Springs. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over runs Aug. 18 - Sept. 4 From Erin G. Eggen Frankfort, KY - As Labor Day quickly approaches, Kentuckians are reminded to celebrate the end of summer safely by planning for a sober, designated driver if festivities include alcohol. "Our top priority is keeping Kentuckians safe," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "If you are under the influence and choose to get behind the wheel, you put everyone on the road in danger, including yourself. Let's work together to eliminate preventable crashes by committing to celebrate responsibly." While law enforcement officers patrol for impaired drivers year-round, impaired driving crashes typically increase over holidays, so the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's (KYTC) Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and law enforcement across the nation in reminding drivers to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." An Abundance of Sunflowers: A Must See! By Kelli Claypool It's always a beautiful day when you're surrounded by sunflowers, and when I see sunflowers it makes my heart smile! On Tuesday morning, August 22, 2023, I drove by Barry Jones' home and had to stop to take in the beauty of his sunflowers. Each year, Barry plants a plethora of sunflower seeds along his front fence row for the purpose of brightening the day of all the drivers who pass by. He also enjoys watching the American Goldfinches as they frequent the sunflowers. If you have not seen the beauty of Barry's sunflowers, be sure to do so while they are in full bloom. CPD: Campus arrest By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department On Saturday, August 19, 2023, CPD officers responded to Lindsey Wilson College for a report of a female behaving erratically. Officers located female party and observed she was under the influence. She was also found to be in possession of marijuana. When officers attempted to take her into custody, she became combative with officers before being placed into cruiser. Once at Adair Regional Jail, female was also actively resisting and fighting with jail staff before being subdued. Volleyball: LWC sweeps Kentucky Christian in season opener The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 victory over Kentucky Christian on Tuesday at Biggers Sports Center. CPD: Russell Co. woman arrested for wanton endangerment By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department The Columbia Police Department responded to Walmart on Tuesday evening, August 22, 2023. after receiving report of a female in the store intoxicated while also wheeling a baby in a shopping cart. Officers made contact with female and determined she was under the influence, taking her into custody. Officers also located females vehicle in parking lot and K9 Unit Matt was used at which point he alerted on vehicle. Search of vehicle yielded findings of narcotics and paraphernalia. CACFD responds to Parrott Avenue house fire From Grant Loy, PIO Columbia - Adair County Fire Department On August 21, 2023, the Columbia - Adair County Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 21:12 hours to 574 Parrott Avenue on a report of a house fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a residential structure with smoke coming out of the roof of the home. Firefighters made entry into the residence and quickly extinguished the fire. A total of 18 firefighters were on scene for approximately 1 hour.
