Updating the Courthouse Clock Tower By Doug Beard I've enjoyed reading the articles about the old clocks in the Adair County Courthouse. I certainly remember hearing them strike throughout the day. As the current technology is very old and I would imagine hard to fine replacement parts and especially someone who would be responsible for maintaining the operations, is it possible to replace the current equipment with electronic interfaces which would be located in the courthouse and easily programmable from a base computer? The clock faces would remain the same but the working mechanisms would be replaced with the new technology. I'm sure it would be an expensive process but it would be nice to see the clocks operational once again and illuminated during the evening hours. Upstarts like broccoli have been stealing the show, but corn is an ancient food that deserves our respect. The Aztecs served corn, and the Mayans did too. Native Americans saved the Pilgrims from starvation by demonstrating how to grow corn. Now, modern people find it an excellent source of great flavor, vitamin C, and fiber. Delinquent Tax Sale set for Sept 27 The 2022 Adair County Delinquent Real Property Tax Bills (Certificates of Delinquency) are now available for viewing at adair.clerkinfo.net, or in person at the County Clerk's Office, located at 424 Public Square, Ste. 3, Columbia, KY. The list will be published in the Adair Progress on August 24, 2023. The tax sale will be held on September 27, 2023, beginning at 10amCT. All interested participants must register with the County Clerk's office by the close of business on September 18, 2023. Taxpayers can continue to pay their delinquent tax bills to the County Clerk's office anytime prior to the tax sale. Please Note: All payments must be received in the County Clerk's office prior to the tax sale date. Payments received after the tax sale has been conducted will be returned without exception. KELC releases July 2023 Unemployment Report From Mike Clark/Kim Saylor Brannock Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary July 2023 unemployment rate was 3.8%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet (KELC). The preliminary July 2023 jobless rate was unchanged from June 2023 and was down 0.1 percentage points from one year ago. The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for July 2023 was 3.5%, which was down 0.1 percentage points from June 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
