DAR Heritage explored at Adair Genealogy Meeting The Adair County Genealogical Society's July meeting took a patriotic turn as attendees delved into the history of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and celebrated Independence Day. The informative event, held at the Adair County Genealogy and History Center adjacent to the Adair County Public Library, brought together a diverse group of individuals who share family ties with Revolutionary War soldiers and patriots. Conducted by members of the Jane Lampton Chapter of the DAR, the evening proved to be an engaging exploration of ancestral ties to the nation's early struggles. Ernie Bennett, whose ancestor John Scott hailed from Cumberland County, was in attendance, and she shared about him. Adair Annex offices to close for funeral of Jeff Feese It is hereby acknowledged, by Adair County Judge Executive Larry Russell Bryant, that the Adair County Annex Building and all the offices therein will be closing Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2pmCT to attend the funeral of Jeff Feese former Adair County PVA, co-worker, and friend. Jeff served the County of Adair as PVA from 2014-2018 and worked as a field representative for the Department of Revenue for over 25 years. Milling continuing downtown 6pm to 6am The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 Office advises motorists that a resurfacing project continues on KY 55X (Jamestown Street) in Columbia. Traffic will be restricted to one lane controlled by flaggers where crews are working. Motorists should expect delays during nighttime working hours, approximately 6pm to 6am. Contractors are milling KY 55X between the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway interchange (mile point 0.42) and extending north to the intersection of KY 55-Columbia Bypass (mile point 3.02). Crews plan to start full paving operations by the end of the week as the milling is completed. Mary Elizabeth Hendrickson Lawhorn, 90, Liberty, KY Mary Elizabeth Hendrickson Lawhorn, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at Liberty Care and Rehab. She was 90. Born on May 25, 1933, in Casey County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Dennie and Blanche Burress Hendrickson. Mary was a secretary for Casey County Schools and a homemaker, as well. She was a member of Liberty First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #30, the DAV Auxiliary, and the Casey Swingers. She enjoyed reading, farming, and raising a garden. KY 551 in Adair County reduced to one Lane Amber Hale The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that starting today, KY 551 in Adair County will be reduced to one lane for culvert replacements. Work will be performed between the intersection of KY 901 (mile point 0.4) and David Butler Road (mile point 1.1). Temporary traffic signals will be in place on the north and south bound approaches for the lane closure. Work is expected to be completed by November 10.
