Carol Perkins: The Crocodile Song Previous Column: Spring Break with JC By Carol Perkins When several classmates and I had lunch last week, our conversation predictably turned to school days. A few attended Summer Shade Elementary and the rest of us went to Edmonton Elementary. Back then, we might as well have lived a hundred miles away from each other because the only time we were together was at elementary ballgames. The best tales were about teachers whose habits were a little odd. One of our favorite Edmonton teachers was Ms. Moran. Her method of punishment was to hold back a student's hand until it hurt and then inflict further pain by whacking the palm with a ruler. My offense was talking too much. I "got" the ruler a few times, but some were destined for it almost daily. She surely had carpel tunnel when she retired. We loved her despite her ruler because her style was different. We sang many songs with Ms. Clara Moran, sitting in her chair with us fifth graders surrounding her. My favorite was The Crocodile Song. Motorists asked to slow down, stay alert in mowing zones By Amber Hale Somerset, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 8 advises motorists that roadside mowing season is underway, which runs from April to October. State and contract crews will complete three mowing cycles, including litter removal on interstates, parkways and other primary routes throughout the state. KYTC officials ask Kentuckians to do their part by keeping the state right of way clear of temporary signs and other obstacles that can obstruct the path of mowers and pose a hazard for mowing crews and motorists. Claudia Jan Donnell, 70, Breeding, KY (1953-2023) Claudia Jan (Reeves) Donnell of Breeding passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY.
