Letter: Flags at half staff protocol James Roberts writes: I understand that only certain individuals can order the American flag to half staff. There have been other instances where local elected officials from this county and surrounded counties have ordered local flags to half staff for certain individuals. I've seen them in the local papers and on Columbia Magazine over the years. Nothing can I recall where it became personal or political in the past when it was done and nothing was ever said out of respect for the deceased person or family being honored.Comments re: Flag to half staff at Annex 2023-01-23 15:55:20 | Comments | Printable version

Legislative update from Representative Amy Neighbors From Laura Leigh Goins As lawmakers prepare to reconvene the 2023 Regular Session, legislative committees are continuing to lay the framework for the legislation we will consider during the remaining 26 legislative days. While the past several sessions have been consumed by major issues like the budget, tax reform, redistricting, and the pandemic, this session provides legislators with an opportunity to address other areas and, hopefully, dig deep into issues that have plagued our state for far too long. In other words, we have laid the groundwork for a strong foundation and built a framework for opportunity. The time has come to make sure the fine details are in place. Many of our committees will begin hearing bills and resolutions the first week, so I recommend visiting the legislature's website at legislature.ky.gov to see what has already been filed and monitor new legislation as it comes in for consideration. In the meantime, here is a brief description of what some of the House committees will be considering: Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2023-01-23 15:45:27 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Politics
