Football: LWC defeats Georgetown 23-17 on Senior Day

The Lindsey Wilson football team defeated No. 16 Georgetown (KY) 23-17 on Saturday afternoon at Parnell Family Stadium during their regular-season finale.

Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown were tied at 17-17 with just over a minute to play. Georgetown had possession as Gehrig Slunaker dropped back in the pocket, winding up to throw but the ball slipped free from his hands. Brandon Fields rushed in for a scoop-and-score, giving Lindsey Wilson a 23-17 lead.

On Georgetown's final possession, Darius Holden iced the game with an interception. The defensive play let the Blue Raiders kneel it out to capture the win.

Travel: Arches National Park, Utah

2022-11-13 - Moab, UT - Photo By Robert Ellis, Robert Ellis Woodworking.
Robert writes, "The National Park Service calls Arches 'A Red-Rock Wonderland'. I'm in 100% agreement with that statement. Seems like every few miles there are some new, out of this world, landscapes for your eyes to gaze upon. Even if there were no arches at this park, the colors, ever changing scenery and mind boggling rock formations should entice folks to place this National Park high on their bucket list. We explored the Park for two days...a few more would have been better!"

Travel: Arches National Park, Utah

By Robert Ellis

Our itinerary for this trip allowed for a couple days at Arches National Park. On our first day of traveling we passed close to Arches...and while it was very tempting to swing by and visit, we held to our plans...that visit would happen later in the week. While the peak season had ended, the park was still closing the gates between 9-2 due to heavy visitation, so we would have to possibly do a plan "b" for our visit. Plan "b" allows for visitors to enter before they open or after they close the gates. In the end it worked out nicely as we were able to enter during normal times.

Arches was probably one our most favorite parks in Utah. But then again each of Utah's national parks are so different from each other, and wonderful, it becomes difficult to put them in some kind of rank order.

A few words about Arches from the Park Service Website:
A Red-Rock Wonderland
Discover a landscape of contrasting colors, land forms, and textures unlike any other. The park has over 2,000 natural stone arches, hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive rock fins, and giant balanced rocks. This red-rock wonderland will amaze you with its formations, refresh you with its trails, and inspire you with its sunsets.

Commentary: Youth facility riot Friday night

By Vicky Pike

For months rumors have been going around of how terrible the situation is in the juvenile justice prisons in Kentucky. First was the Lyndon facility that was in news. Now here at the facility located in Columbia. I along with others live within a mile or so of this facility. Talk has it that they were extremely short staffed. New hires leave within days. Older more seasoned employees were overworked to the breaking point. Many being injured repeatedly over time. Older employees are trying to hang on for their benefits at retirement.

Our facility needs to be looked at as closely as the one in Lyndon near Louisville. Obviously, something needs to be done to retain new hires as well as reward those older employees who have held the place together for months. I for one don't want to wake up to a prison break within a mile of my home. These kids that are at this facility are some of the worst in the system and from what I hear some of those from the Lyndon facility were sent here.

I'm pleading with anyone in a position to help from whatever office or position you hold to investigate this thoroughly and make sure something is done to improve this prison. I personally have made several calls and emails to news media and others in positions of authority to bring the problem here to light as well as other places. I fear for our community if there is a prison break at this facility. It contains the worst offenders in the system. That's why it is maximum security.
