LWC holds Fall Trustee Luncheon The LWC Trustee Appreciation & Endowed Scholarship Luncheon was held for the first time in three years. The importance of generosity and the extraordinary opportunity found at a small college on a "humble hill" were the recurrent themes heard on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Lindsey Wilson College's Trustee Appreciation & Endowed Scholarship Recognition Luncheon. LWC education senior Dana Watts from Russell Springs, Kentucky, provided the student perspective for the event. The keynote speaker, 2017 Christian ministries graduate Rev. Matthew Abel, reflected on his time at LWC and the transformation he experienced as a student learning to be a leader in the Methodist church. "I knew the first day that I set foot on the A.P. White Campus that I had found my college home," said Abel, an Elizabethtown, Kentucky, native who is currently serving as Associate Pastor and Youth Minister at Florence United Methodist Church in Florence, Kentucky. "Lindsey is where I met my incredible wife, it's where I met some of my best friends, and it's where I fell back in love with Jesus Christ and began pursuing a call to the ministry." Tommy Druen: Judge Emberton was a great mentor Previous Column: Take the time to go to a game By Tommy Druen The 1990s were an age of advice and self-help. Multiple shelves of such stores as B. Dalton and Waldenbooks (remember those places?) were dedicated to books on the topic. It was an era when people like Stephen Covey, Tony Robbins and Susan Powter became household names. Everywhere you turned, people were offering advice. While life-coaching wasn't a named profession yet, you could see the roots of it in books, newspapers, magazines, even on television. Those offering the advice were only outnumbered by the ones willing to lay down hard-earned money for it. It was a time of economic prosperity and everyone wanted a piece of it. Some of the advice was unreasonable, and laughable in the year 2022, such as Powter's simplified "lose a little weight and your life will change" suggestion. However, most was pretty solid. Occasionally still, I'll refer to Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People." One of the most often shared pieces of advice though was to "get a mentor."
