Hunger growing in student population

Family Resources representatives - Keisha Burton, Lindsey Wilson College Bonner Scholars; Kara Iqbal and Hali Anderson, ACHS YSE; Pam Bivens, ACES FRC; and Heather Dudley, ACPC FRC - spoke at the September WATCH health coalition meeting about seeing an increased need for food among children since the aid during the pandemic has ended.

They are hoping that more help can come from services as well as citizens of Adair County to help children avoid food insecurity. Even though all students are provided free breakfast and lunch, many still need food to take home.

Mama deer and her twins have dined along the little Town Creek regularly this season. The twins are growing up fast and no longer stick right by her side, giving her time to enjoy her food without interruption at this visit.

Education Committee discusses changes to KEES for homeschoolers

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's homeschooling parents and students are advocating alongside lawmakers for better access to state sponsored college scholarships.

Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, was joined by a homeschooling parent, two homeschooled students and Mark Messingschlager, director of financial aid at Thomas More University, at the Interim Joint Committee on Education on Tuesday. Together, they asked lawmakers to consider potential legislation that would give Kentucky's homeschooled students more access to Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) funds.

Coy R. Burton, 77, Columbia, KY (1945-2022)

Coy R. Burton of Columbia died on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. He was 77 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30pmCT on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Bearwallow Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday from 9amCT until NoonCT on Friday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Earlene Thomas, 76, Adair Co., KY (1946-2022)

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, the Death Angel peacefully claimed Earlene Willis Thomas at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was 76 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Rev. K.F. Tuck delivering the Eulogy. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 5pmCT on Saturday.

Running with the Blue Raiders 5K this Saturday

Join your LWC friends and family on Saturday morning, September 24, 2022, for a 5K around LWC's beautiful campus and local community, in the Running Wildly Blue with the Blue Raiders 5K (part of LWC Homecoming 2022).

Check-in will begin at 7:30amCT on Saturday at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY. The run/walk will begin at 8amCT. Runners and walkers are welcome.

Register online for the 5K and for other Homecoming 2022 events at lindsey.edu. Register today, Tuesday, September 20 to receive a race t-shirt. Your $20 registration fee will support the Bonner Scholar Program's upcoming senior service trip.

The week of September 17 through September 23, 2022, has been proclaimed as "Constitution Week," in Columbia, Kentucky, as the result of a proclamation issued by Mayor Pamela Hoots.

September 17, 2022, marks the 235th anniversary of the framing of the constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention.

Boil Water Advisory lifted

September 20, 2022

As of 11:53 a.m. on September 20, 2022 the boil water advisory for customers from 1139-1297 Flatwoods, 1430-3649 Portland Rd, Kemp Rd, and Bill Handy Rd. has been lifted by the Division of Water. This means your water is safe for human consumption. You no longer have to boil your water.

Ronnie Joe Byrd of the Millerfield community of Adair County died on Monday, September, 19, 2022 at his residence. He was 48 years old.

Caregivers Group returning Oct 19

The Caregivers Group for Adair County is scheduled to return for meetings on October 19, 2022. They will be meeting at NoonCT at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY.

This group is for family members, relatives, partners, and other people involved in the care of their relatives and friends. The meeting brings those together for discussion and to reach out for assistance. Special speakers will be scheduled.
